Elara laughed so hard she practically had tears in her eyes.
"Well said, well said! Better the mother-of-the-bride pushes for kids than me. If I did it, everyone would call me the overbearing mother-in-law demanding grandchildren on day one!"
Dominic nodded, his tone entirely sincere. "We're definitely not trying to rush you. We just think with genes as good as yours and Julian's, it'd be a shame not to have more. And as for raising them, don't worry about a thing. We have plenty of hands to help out. You two just focus on having them; Elara and I will gladly take on babysitting duty."
Jacqueline laughed brightly and raised her glass.
"Alright, consider the pressure applied! On behalf of the Langley family, I toast all of you. If Scarlett ever steps out of line, please be patient with her."
...
The evening was an absolute triumph, filled with warmth and effortless joy.
She had assumed that marrying into an elite, old-money dynasty like the Croft family would come with endless rules and suffocating traditions, far worse than the snobbery she had endured with the Flynns.
But to her absolute shock, everyone was just like Dominic and Elara—incredibly easygoing and totally unpretentious.
She finally understood what true, high-class etiquette looked like. It wasn't about forcing people to bow their heads and submit like the Flynns did. It was about making everyone feel welcome, making every new addition want to dive in and be part of the family.
After dinner.
At Elara's enthusiastic insistence, she and Julian, along with Dawn, ended up spending the night at the estate.
Tomorrow was Monday. The day they were going to sign the papers.
The four of them were in incredibly high spirits.
Once Dawn was asleep, Elara suggested a game of Bridge.
She hadn't played in years, but she happily agreed.
The four of them sat in the estate's game room, laughing and playing cards late into the night.
She was a little rusty, but Julian secretly fed her the right cards under the radar.
Elara and Dominic caught on immediately and continuously made 'mistakes' so she would win hand after hand.
