He Never Loved Me Until the Day I Finally Left Him novel Chapter 40

As she spoke, Janetta actually turned to leave.

But in the next second, Sebastian grabbed her wrist. "I didn't say you could go."

A triumphant glint flashed through Janetta's eyes. "Seb... but..."

She bit her lip, pretending to be torn.

Sebastian pulled her hand into his, but his icy glare was fixed squarely on his wife.

"Can't you see we have a guest? You're still Mrs. Hayes. Don't you know how to entertain?" he commanded.

The harder Helena pushed back, the more obsessed he became with forcing her to submit to his every whim.

Helena stood frozen, her face chalk-white.

She truly hadn't expected him to be this unbelievably cruel.

"My patience is running thin, Helena," he warned.

She knew exactly what he was doing. He was dangling her mother's home over her head to force her submission.

If she refused to play his twisted game, the apartment was gone.

She could choose to walk away and let it burn.

But in her shattered, broken life, that place was the only pure memory she had left.

It was her mother's final sanctuary.

"Does it have to be like this, Sebastian? Is this really fun for you?" she asked, her voice trembling as she fought to keep her composure.

His gaze darkened even further.

The tension was thick enough to cut with a knife.

Seeing the standoff, Janetta gently tugged at his sleeve. "Seb. Look how pale she is. She's clearly not feeling well. Please, don't force her."

Her voice was angelic, every word laced with counterfeit concern.

Then, she took a hesitant step toward Helena. "I'm so sorry. I didn't know you were back. If I had, I never would have come."

Helena just stared at her.

Behind the fake apologies, all she saw in Janetta's eyes was vicious, gloating triumph.
