"Yes," Sebastian said smoothly. "So you don't need to work yourself up. You don't have to worry about anyone pulling strings for her. She confessed to everything voluntarily. She even refused legal counsel. Does that satisfy you?"
He stared at her, his face an emotionless mask.
Janetta suddenly found herself speechless.
Helena's complete surrender had caught her totally off guard.
Under his piercing gaze, she couldn't formulate a response.
She didn't know if she felt embarrassed or just incredibly exposed.
"Like you said, the justice system will handle it from here," he added coolly.
Then, he pulled his hands free from her desperate grip.
Panicked, Janetta immediately lunged forward and grabbed his arm again.
"Are you blaming me for this, Seb? I didn't do anything! She came after me!"
Dropping her aggressive demands, she looked up at him with wide, tearful eyes, playing the fragile victim perfectly.
"Have you forgotten she's the one who killed our child?"
"I don't know why she suddenly pleaded guilty, but that doesn't change what she did."
Sebastian stared down at her in silence.
His gaze slowly dropped to where her hands were clinging to his arm.
Before he could say another word, she pressed further.
"Are you in love with her, Seb? Is that why you keep hesitating? From the very beginning, you've been dragging your feet. You won't even finish the divorce!"
Saying it out loud only made Janetta more convinced it was true.
She shook her head, tears of bitter disappointment welling in her eyes.
But beneath the tears was raw, unfiltered terror.
He gave a curt nod and didn't linger another second.
He turned and walked out of the room.
Carter Miles was waiting faithfully in the hallway.
Sebastian's gaze locked onto his assistant. "Did you find what I asked for?"
"Ms. Ramirez leveraged your resources during her years abroad. Her reputation in the industry is actually quite poor; she was known for throwing her weight around. She's not the sweet, inspiring figure she pretends to be. Most of the negative feedback revolves around her being a total diva and difficult to work with. The directors only tolerated her because of your backing."
Carter quickly summarized Janetta's history overseas.
"Aside from that, her illness is genuine. She underwent surgery in Switzerland, and the medical records align with what we already know," he continued.
"She rubbed shoulders with various circles abroad, but she didn't get intimately involved with anyone. Overall, there are no major red flags."
By 'no major red flags,' he meant there was nothing she could use to blackmail or destroy Sebastian.
