Carter didn't dare say another word.
That is, until Sebastian finally looked up. "Is the meeting with IGM Technologies confirmed?"
"Yes, sir," Carter nodded. "Tomorrow morning at their headquarters."
"Good. I expect to meet their CEO," he stated coldly.
"Director Chen assured us their CEO will be present," Carter confirmed. "Their last name is Wallace."
"Wallace?" Sebastian paused, abruptly falling silent.
Sensing his boss's shift in mood, Carter wisely kept his mouth shut.
Helena had shared the same surname.
That name had become an unspoken taboo in Sebastian's presence.
Hardly anyone ever dared to utter it.
The coincidence was almost suffocating.
Prior to this, all their negotiations had been handled by regional directors.
This elusive CEO Wallace had never shown their face.
But given that this partnership involved millions of dollars in joint investments, the executive's presence was mandatory.
"What time?" Sebastian asked flatly.
"Ten in the morning," Carter replied.
Sebastian grunted in acknowledgment, but before he could issue another order, his phone buzzed.
The caller ID flashed Janetta's name.
He stared at the screen, a flicker of irritation darkening his gaze.
Yet in a fraction of a second, his predatory gaze masked the annoyance entirely.
He swiped to answer the call.
Janetta's frantic voice poured through the speaker. "Sebastian, Kyle is running a high fever! I'm terrified—please come back immediately!"
"I'm on my way," he responded instantly.
Overhearing the exchange, Carter immediately accelerated toward the hotel.
Kyle was the only person left in the world who could provoke a genuine reaction from him.
And Janetta clearly knew how to exploit that weakness.
Years ago, she used her own fragile health to manipulate him.
To her, he was merely a biological asset.
It was a stark contrast to how Helena had been.
The sheer joy radiating from Helena when she spoke of her pregnancy had been palpable.
Every tiny movement of the baby had consumed her entire world.
Deep down, Sebastian knew the real reason he doted on the boy.
It wasn't solely because Kyle was his flesh and blood.
For reasons he couldn't explain, whenever he looked at his son...
He saw absolutely none of Janetta in the boy's features.
Instead, he saw haunting glimpses of Helena.
The mere thought felt utterly absurd.
Janetta would never, under any circumstances, raise the offspring of her worst enemy.
"Sebastian, he threw a tantrum the moment we got back, crying uncontrollably before his fever spiked," Janetta stepped forward, aggressively deflecting any blame. "I already called for help. The doctor is in the bedroom examining him now."
She crowded into his personal space, pressing herself intimately against him.
