He Never Loved Me Until the Day I Finally Left Him novel Chapter 529

"Hey there, why are you out here all by yourself?" Helena asked gently, unable to simply walk away. She turned back and crouched down to his eye level.

Kyle pressed his lips together, staring at her.

For reasons he couldn't explain, the moment he looked into her warm gaze, his defenses crumbled.

Without thinking, he threw his arms around her neck.

Helena froze in surprise, completely taken aback by the sudden embrace.

Seconds later, she felt a distinct dampness seeping through the fabric of her blouse.

"Are you crying? What's wrong, sweetie? Did you lose your family? Do you know their phone numbers? I can call them for you," she offered softly, her voice brimming with genuine concern.

Kyle let out a small, jagged sob.

This is it, he thought. This is what a mother feels like.

His entire life, he had craved a mother like this.

Someone who would hold him tenderly and speak to him with such raw, unconditional kindness.

Instead, he was stuck with Janetta, a woman who looked at him with icy indifference and only bothered to pretend she cared when Sebastian was watching.

The unfairness of it all broke something inside him.

He began to wail, his tiny frame shaking with the force of his sobs.

Helena didn't panic.

She simply held him, rubbing his back patiently until his tears finally subsided.

"Do you want me to help you make a phone call?" she asked patiently, pulling back slightly.

That was when she noticed the hospital wristband secured around his thin arm.

"Are you a patient here, too? How about I walk you back to your room? Do you remember where it is? If not, tell me your name, and we'll ask the nurses' station," she coaxed, her tone perfectly steady.

Kyle shook his head and slowly released his grip on her.

Helena watched him, mildly bewildered.

"I can find my way back. Thank you," Kyle whispered, his voice still thick with tears.

Without another word, he turned and marched back in the direction of the pediatric ward.

He had lost control.

He had been so starved for a mother's touch that he had recklessly clung to a total stranger.

But he was hyper-aware of his position.

He knew what was expected of him and what lines he couldn't cross.

He didn't want to cause trouble for anyone.

Even if he desperately craved her warmth, he forced himself to walk away.
