Sebastian never left his opponents any room to breathe during a negotiation.
He offered the illusion of a choice while keeping his hands wrapped tightly around their throats.
"What exactly about me caught your eye?" she asked directly.
"Julian and I despise each other, though we've mostly stayed out of each other's way. But since you delivered yourself right to my doorstep, why wouldn't I take advantage?" he countered smoothly. "Besides, I am undeniably attracted to you."
His hand slowly moved up to trace the delicate curve of her eye.
The touch sent a violent shiver down her spine.
His mood was terrifyingly unpredictable, making it impossible to read his true intentions.
"Your eyes look exactly like my ex-wife's," he murmured softly.
"So I'm just a substitute?" she asked, not blinking.
"Isn't that what you are to Julian?" he shot back effortlessly.
She let out a breathy laugh and nodded. "Aren't you afraid you'll regret this? I am not nearly as innocent as I look. I might have my own hidden agenda."
He smiled faintly, refusing to engage.
He didn't bother answering her.
She knew instantly that he didn't view her as a threat.
He simply didn't believe she was capable of outsmarting him.
"Aren't you worried your wife will cause a scene? We are working on the same project, after all," she pressed.
"She won't," he replied with absolute certainty.
She raised an eyebrow but kept quiet.
She knew exactly what kind of monster Janetta was.
The woman's jealousy was venomous and petty.
But that was exactly what she was counting on.
"Any other questions?" he asked, his voice dropping an octave.
"How long?" she demanded bluntly. "I'm not going to be your secret lover forever."
That actually made him pause, as if calculating a timeline.
She waited patiently.
