He Never Loved Me Until the Day I Finally Left Him novel Chapter 66

Deep down, Janetta hoped Helena had lost the baby. A pregnant Helena, who still legally held the title of Mrs. Hayes, was a massive threat to her plans.

But she would never let that ugly thought slip from her lips.

Composing herself, she walked gracefully toward Sebastian's imposing figure.

"Sebastian," she called out softly, lacing her voice with perfect anxiety.

Sebastian turned, slightly surprised. "Why are you here?"

"I saw the news, and I happened to have a check-up scheduled anyway, so I came to see what was happening," she replied smoothly, her alibi flawless.

She reached out and gently intertwined her fingers with his, giving his hand a comforting squeeze.

Sebastian glanced down at their joined hands, his gaze unreadable, but he didn't pull away.

Feigning innocence, Janetta asked, "Is Helena pregnant?"

There was a hint of nervousness in her tone, but not a shred of anger. She didn't throw a tantrum or demand answers. Instead, she expertly twisted the narrative to play the martyr.

"It makes sense that she'd be pregnant. After all, you two have been married for seven years; she must have wanted a child with you so badly. I know how much she loves you. But now..." Janetta sighed deeply, her voice trembling. "Sebastian, is this my fault? Did I cause a fight between you two? Is that why she's in the emergency room right now?"

Tears welled up in her eyes, large, pathetic drops spilling over her lashes as she looked up at him in utter distress.

"This has nothing to do with you," Sebastian murmured, his tone softening.

After the sheer frustration of dealing with Helena's defiance, Janetta's tearful devotion was a soothing balm. Here was a woman whose eyes held nothing but him. The suffocating irritation in his chest eased significantly, and he naturally lowered his guard to comfort her.

Janetta leaned into him, resting her head against his chest as she let out soft, delicate sobs.

"I just hope she's going to be okay, or I'll never forgive myself," she whispered, making sure every word painted her as a saint.

Sebastian didn't respond directly. "I'll have my driver take you home."
