He Never Loved Me Until the Day I Finally Left Him novel Chapter 82

Sebastian's patience had completely evaporated.

Any facade of the caring, attentive husband he had worn earlier was ripped away.

"Keep a close eye on her. If anything goes wrong, heads will roll!" he barked at the bodyguards.

Without sparing Helena another glance, he scooped Janetta up into his arms and strode out of the room.

The chaotic energy in the hospital ward lingered long after they were gone.

The faint, metallic scent of blood still hung in the air.

"Let me... let me clean that up for you," the nurse murmured, visibly shaken.

Helena remained perfectly still, letting the nurse tend to her split lip.

As soon as she finished, the nurse practically fled the room.

A second later, a bodyguard stepped inside, taking his post to monitor her every move.

Helena stared ahead with mechanical numbness. There was no reaction.

No tears, no hysteria.

She just leaned back against the pillows, drifting in and out of a restless sleep until the sky turned pitch black.

The next day, it was time for Helena to be discharged, but Sebastian didn't show up.

He was stuck in a meeting with Beau Sterling, his expression thunderous the entire time.

"Did Helena give you grief?" Beau asked bluntly. "Isn't she getting discharged today? Aren't you worried something might happen if you're not there to supervise? I honestly didn't expect the old man to leave behind such a contingency plan. Grandpa really favored her."

Sebastian sneered. "What could possibly happen? Her life is worthless. Do you really think she'd risk the kid in her stomach? She wouldn't dare. No matter how miserable she is, she'll grit her teeth and give birth to this baby."

"So, no divorce then?" Beau raised an eyebrow.

"How could we? Grandpa's will has my hands tied. The heir has to be legitimate, and it has to be hers." His gaze darkened.

Beau studied him, his lips parting to speak.

Before he could get a word out, Sebastian's phone buzzed. It was one of his bodyguards.

He answered immediately. "What's the situation?"

The bodyguards had their heads bowed, too terrified to speak.

The doctors and nurses stood off to the side, looking completely bewildered.

There was a smear of fresh blood on the hospital bed, a glaring sign that Helena's condition was far from stable.

"You useless pieces of trash! You can't even keep an eye on a pregnant woman?" Sebastian roared, his fury practically shaking the walls. "What the hell happened?"

He delivered a brutal kick to the closest bodyguard.

The man crashed into the doorframe, his face twisting in pain, but he hurriedly answered.

"Early this morning, Mrs. Hayes said she was having severe stomach cramps and bleeding. We immediately called for the doctor. But by the time the medical team arrived... she was gone. She left a pre-recorded voice memo playing on a loop, saying she was in the bathroom. By the time we realized what was happening, there was no trace of her left in the hospital."

"Check the security cameras!" Sebastian barked.

"We did. There's no footage of her anywhere on the premises." The bodyguard looked just as baffled.

"Impossible! Check again. Turn Riverton upside down if you have to, but find her!" he bellowed, completely losing his mind.

The staff scattered immediately.
