He Waited She Wilted (Ottilie and Yorath) novel Chapter 151

Yorath turned around to inspect the footage.

The original video hadn't been edited. He dragged the progress bar straight to the end, right to the moment of the landslide.

There were too many people, and the camera was too far away. It took him a long while to spot Ottilie climbing down the tree.

Once on the ground, she grabbed the cameraman and ran.

The direction they were sprinting in was the exact epicenter of the landslide.

They hadn't made it far before the entire mountain gave way, burying the valley under dozens of feet of earth.

Even if Ottilie had sprouted wings, she wouldn't have been able to fly out of that.

Everyone was staring at Yorath.

His perfectly straight posture seemed to falter slightly, and a suffocating, dark aura began radiating from him.

He stared at the screen, unmoving, as if turned to stone.

No one knew what was going through his mind.

Lachlan Schmidt and Jevon Crawford were the last to arrive.

Jevon scanned the crowd, and when he couldn't find Ottilie, he immediately knew something had gone terribly wrong.

Lachlan walked up to Yorath. "Where's Ottilie?"

Yorath's voice was completely dead. "Buried under the landslide."

Lachlan's face drained of all color.

He instantly went into denial. "Impossible. Everyone else is here. There's no way Ottilie..."

"I told you," Yorath interrupted. "If she dies, you go down with her."

He drew the tactical knife strapped to his thigh and lunged, aiming straight for Lachlan's throat.

The sheer shock of Ottilie's death had left Lachlan paralyzed; he just stood there, forgetting to even dodge.

Thank God Jevon had quick reflexes. He launched himself forward, tackling Lachlan to the ground.

Even so, the razor-sharp blade sliced a shallow gash across Lachlan's neck.

Elian Zouch rushed in. Just as Yorath was about to deliver a fatal second strike, Elian grabbed him from behind in a death grip.

"Jevon, get him out of here! Now!"

After giving his orders, Yorath led a team straight to the site of the landslide to set up camp.

The torrential rain began pouring again.

Jevon stood next to Yorath, letting the rain drench them both.

"Yorath, with rain this heavy, the drones can't fly. Even if we get the excavators here ASAP, you're talking about digging through an entire collapsed mountain. Even with dozens of machines running 24/7, it'll take years to clear this area."

Jevon didn't dare say the rest out loud.

If Ottilie was truly buried under there, in a few years, they wouldn't even find her bones.

There was absolutely no point in digging.

To be brutally honest, Ottilie simply wasn't worth wasting this level of resources.

If the media caught wind of this, their political and corporate rivals would have a field day dragging Yorath's name through the mud—abusing his immense power to move a mountain just to find a mistress's corpse.

The public backlash alone could ruin his future trajectory for good.

"If it takes years, then I'll dig for decades," Yorath said. "I will see her alive, or I will see her corpse."
