He Waited She Wilted (Ottilie and Yorath) novel Chapter 299

She grabbed Leonard Schmidt's collar, screaming through her tears. "It has to be your eldest son! He's always hated Heath. The one time Heath goes to a party with him, this happens! Lachlan screwed up and is about to be kicked out by the board. To secure his position as the heir, he's trying to murder my boy!"

She descended into a hysterical fit of crying and thrashing.

Leonard finally had enough. He roared at his wife, "Shut your mouth! Stop trying to drive a wedge between my sons!"

He then pointed a furious finger at Heath. "You tell me. What exactly happened tonight?"

Heath lay propped against the headboard, still in shock, his soul barely tethered to his body.

The crash had been horrific.

The brakes had completely failed. The car slammed into a concrete barrier and flipped. Fuel poured out behind him, igniting into a trail of flames...

If he hadn't been incredibly fit, using his massive upper body strength to drag himself out of the wreckage in time, he would be a charred corpse right now.

He stayed silent, refusing to say a word.

Leonard slapped him hard across the face. "Speak!"

The slap jolted Heath back to reality. He glanced at his hysterical mother and said quietly, "I'm fine, Mom. Don't cry."

Eleanor immediately stopped wailing.

Heath continued, "The police will have to investigate who did this. But as for who benefits the most if I'm dead, I think Dad knows the answer to that better than anyone."

Hearing this, Eleanor started screaming all over again. "Who else could it be but Lachlan! I've been with you since I was eighteen! I gave you a son! And now you're just going to let your eldest boy butcher him? You heartless bastard!"

She lunged at Leonard, raining weak punches against his chest.

Annoyed by the noise, Heath snapped, "Mom, Dad, can you go fight outside? My head is killing me."

Eleanor dragged Leonard out of the room to continue the argument. "You're calling a board meeting tomorrow and firing Lachlan! If he can do this to his own flesh and blood, do you really think he'll show you any mercy?"

Heath sat in silence for a while, Yorath's arrogant face flashing through his mind.

He knew exactly what Yorath was thinking.

Instead of letting Heath hold onto evidence to blackmail him or leak it to the press, Yorath figured it was easier to just kill him and ensure his silence forever.

But since Heath had survived, he was going to make damn sure Yorath suffered.

He picked up his phone and dialed Ottilie's number.
