Nyssa abruptly stopped mid-sentence, standing stunned at the door.
"Get out," Yorath ordered.
Nyssa left the medicine at the entrance, turned, and ran.
Jevon was copying the video to his phone, planning to search for clues alone later.
Then he saw Nyssa running from the shower tent, her face flushed red.
"What's wrong?"
Nyssa covered her face and shook her head.
Jevon frowned. "Did you bump into him?"
Nyssa gave a shy nod.
"First time seeing him naked?"
She nodded again.
Jevon scoffed. "What's there to be so shy about? It's just anatomy. I'm just as well-endowed as he is, so why don't you like me?"
"Stop it," Nyssa said.
She turned and retreated to her own tent.
She was starting to understand why Ottilie liked Yorath. He wasn't just some ordinary man; he was destined for greatness. What woman wouldn't get completely addicted to sleeping with him?
The night in the mountains was pitch black.
You couldn't see your own hand in front of your face.
At eleven o'clock.
Shawn entered Heath's tent.
Heath was lounging on his cot playing on his phone. He had managed to get his hands on the final footage of Ottilie's disappearance from the analysts tracking her escape route.
He lay there, watching it with absolute relish.
Just thinking about catching her and exacting his revenge was enough to keep his blood running hot all night.
When Shawn appeared, Heath closed the video. "She isn't dead."
"That's exactly why I'm here," Shawn replied. "I already know where Ottilie is."
Nyssa planted a bare foot against him to keep him at bay.
"We aren't engaged, and we're not even officially together. You just want my body—have you ever respected me?"
Shawn slapped himself across the face.
"My fault. I'm an idiot. Nyssa, just looking at you makes me happy. I'd die for you."
She sighed softly. "What good is you dying? I'm so stressed about work right now. Ms. Sewell is back, and Yorath's heart leans toward her. I'll lose my job, and I won't be able to make money to buy us a house so we can get married. If I have no power and no money, would you still want to marry me?"
Shawn hurriedly dropped to his knees in front of her, eager and desperate. "I would."
"Liar." She looked away. "I don't trust the sweet talk of men."
"Baby, sweetheart, believe me. I love you, I love you to death. I'll love you no matter what happens. It's just Ottilie—leave her to me. I won't let her steal what's yours."
"Really?"
"Really."
Nyssa smiled, lowering her head. She stretched out her foot and placed it against his chest, tracing lightly with her toes.
Shawn shuddered, completely undone.
