He Waited She Wilted (Ottilie and Yorath) novel Chapter 165

That night.

Fabian slept restlessly.

He constantly tossed, turned, and paced around.

Ottilie had been sleeping soundly but was woken up repeatedly. She finally sat up. "Something on your mind?"

"Yeah," he replied. "We're leaving tomorrow, and I'm worried we'll take the wrong path. Go back to sleep, I'm sorry for waking you."

"Don't worry," she reassured him. "The sun rises in the east. Once we get our bearings, we won't get lost. Get some sleep."

He nodded and lay down on the far side of the cave.

Later that night.

Ottilie dreamed of Yorath.

In the dream, he had cooked an entire table of exquisite, mouth-watering dishes, but she couldn't reach them.

Just as she finally managed to pick up a piece of food and bring it to her lips, she woke up.

She lay on a bed of leaves, resting her head on her arm.

She had no idea why Yorath had infiltrated her dreams.

Maybe her exhausted brain was misfiring.

Too hungry to fall back asleep, she stared into the darkness, waiting for dawn.

Suddenly, a faint rustling echoed from the woods.

It wasn't the wind moving the branches.

It was the distinct sound of footsteps crunching against the forest floor.

She turned to check on Fabian.

He was gone.

Just as she was about to sit up, footsteps approached from the right side of the cave.

Out of the corner of her eye, she caught the silhouette of a figure standing at the entrance.

She immediately squeezed her eyes shut and feigned sleep.

The person walked over and stopped right beside her.

Heath's fingers trailed down her jawline, his voice dripping with malice.

"I'm honored you still remember me. Let's settle our debts. What are you going to use to pay me back for my legs?"

She instinctively reached for her recording pen.

It wasn't there.

She remembered the production crew had confiscated all electronic devices to prevent leaks before they entered the mountains.

She could only pray that Fabian had sensed the danger, hidden himself, and was secretly filming this entire encounter.

"You and Preston Walden conspired to rape me. I fought back in self-defense. I'm honestly disappointed I didn't permanently ruin you."

Heath raised his hand and struck her viciously across the face.

"You venomous bitch! I courted you! I bought out theaters for your movies! I sponsored your shows! I threw endless money at you just to build your career. I only asked for one night, and you dared to reject me? You really are just an ungrateful little actress."

Half of her face immediately swelled up. Her ears rang, and the metallic taste of blood filled her mouth.

Yet, she remained icy and composed.

"You're mistaken. It's not that I don't sleep with men for favors. Look at how Yorath elevated my career—I slept with him for years. I rejected you because you're hideous to look at, and rumor has it you're terrible in bed. I simply couldn't stomach it."
