He Waited She Wilted (Ottilie and Yorath) novel Chapter 196

Halfway to the hospital, Ottilie spotted a florist.

"Please pull over."

"What are you up to now?" Jevon eyed her with heavy suspicion.

He was convinced she was going to make a run for it.

The last time Yorath was hospitalized, she had packed a lunchbox and gone to visit Yves Walden instead.

If she vanished right under his nose this time, he'd never be able to look Yorath in the eye again.

"Buying flowers."

"Flowers?"

"Yeah. Aren't you supposed to bring flowers when visiting someone in the hospital?" she asked innocently.

Jevon nodded slowly. "Right. Flowers. I'll go with you."

"It's hot out. Just wait in the car," she said, reaching for the door handle. It was locked.

Jevon's phone buzzed. It was the hospital.

He shot the driver a look.

The locks clicked open.

As she stepped out, she heard him answer the phone.

"We're on our way, almost there. Yeah, she's with me..."

Given the season, fresh blooms didn't last long, and many varieties were out of stock.

She had wanted traditional mourning flowers, but they only had white gerbera daisies.

She picked out a massive, solemn bouquet of the white blooms.

As she was leaving, the florist handed her a single red rose.

"Come back soon, miss!"

She murmured a polite thanks.

Jevon hung up just as he saw her walking back, clutching the massive bundle of white flowers.

Her slender, athletic figure looked striking in her fluttering white dress, looking as flawless and radiant as a porcelain doll.

She slid into the backseat, the single red rose pointed directly at Jevon.

"For me?" he asked, reaching for it before she even confirmed.

It wasn't for him. She swiftly pulled the flower out of his reach.

To her, their favor and their punishment were exact equivalents—just scraps of power tossed down from the elites to the peasants.

It was all just different forms of humiliation. There was no difference.

Especially when they were forcing things on her she didn't even want.

He stared at her like she was an alien species.

"When he finally drops you, don't come crying to us."

That was the end of the conversation.

The tension in the car was suffocatingly thick.

They finally arrived at the hospital.

Stepping out of the elevator, she immediately spotted Marcella standing in the hallway, staring intensely at the surgery room doors.

Jevon lowered his voice. "Stay back for a second. Let me talk to his mother and calm her down, then you can come over."

Ignoring him, Ottilie walked straight up to Marcella and offered a polite nod. "Mrs. Fordham."

Marcella threw her a sideways glance. "You're incredibly cunning. You get my son nearly killed, and you still have the nerve to show your face here?"

"You misunderstand, Mrs. Fordham. You and I actually want the exact same thing," she replied smoothly. "You don't want me entangled with your son, and I don't want him harassing me either. Why don't you do us both a favor, rein him in, and let me live my own life?"
