He Waited She Wilted (Ottilie and Yorath) novel Chapter 26

As Ottilie walked out of her ward, she ran right into Nyssa Tarrant.

Nyssa was wearing a pink off-the-shoulder top paired with white capri pants, flashing a sliver of a slender waist.

Her hair was tied in a high ponytail, practically radiating vibrant energy.

A doctor in a white coat followed closely behind her.

"Ms. Sewell, heading out?"

Ottilie nodded. "Yes."

Nyssa stepped into her path, offering a breathtakingly sweet smile.

"When you saw me at Yorath's place the other day, did you get the wrong idea? I actually haven't moved in with him yet."

"You and Mr. Fordham are a perfect match. It's completely normal for you to live together. I wouldn't misunderstand anything."

"Really?" Nyssa grabbed Ottilie's hand, her grip surprisingly tight, buzzing with excitement. "Do we have your blessing?"

Before Ottilie could answer, the door behind her clicked open.

Yorath's voice drifted out. "Nyssa."

Nyssa let go of Ottilie's hand, her gaze shifting past her to lock onto Yorath.

"Yorath, I heard you got burned, so I brought a burn specialist to take a look at it."

Her dazzling smile could have made the whole world fade into the background.

Ottilie took the cue, silently stepping away to avoid playing the unwanted third wheel.

Nyssa had always been remarkably considerate, but she timed her interventions flawlessly.

Yorath had just been burned, and she had already gotten the news and brought a specialist.

No wonder everyone loved her.

Who wouldn't love someone that thoughtful?

Once outside the hospital, Ottilie slipped a voice recorder from her pocket.

It had captured the entire incident from the night before, word for word.

She had zero evidence proving Nyssa orchestrated the kidnapping.

Ten minutes later, she walked out with her bag slung over her shoulder.

Marie, who had been hiding in the courtyard keeping an eye on the living room, hurried over when she saw her.

"Ottilie, where are you going?"

"I'm moving out."

"You have a perfectly good home right here. Why would you move out? What a waste of money," Marie demanded, clearly annoyed.

Ottilie looked at her. "Mom, I was kidnapped right out of my bed a couple of days ago. Did you know that?"

Marie's face drained of color. She clamped her mouth shut.

Ottilie smiled bitterly. "I get abducted, and you just watch it happen. You might have even helped them. But the second Shawn plays some cards with his friends, you're sick with worry. Am I even your biological daughter?"

Flinching under Ottilie's piercing gaze, Marie took a step back, thoroughly guilt-ridden.

"I was asleep that night! I didn't know anything! How can you accuse me like that? If you're not my daughter, then whose are you?"

Unable to hold Ottilie's gaze, Marie spun around and fled back into the house.
