Heath didn't even make a sound. His eyes rolled back, his neck snapped to the side, and he was out cold.
Yorath let go, and Heath slumped out of his wheelchair, collapsing onto the floor in a lifeless heap.
Dead silence descended upon the conference room.
Yorath was a man of the law. He was the golden standard of elite society, the civilized aristocrat, the role model for success.
A gentleman used his words, never his fists.
Yet here he was, personally delivering a knockout punch!
Dr. Elian Zouch rushed in with a medical team and immediately began examining Heath on the floor.
He glanced up at Lachlan. "Mr. Schmidt, your brother is merely unconscious. His life isn't in danger."
Lachlan casually waved the hand holding the nail clippers, entirely unfazed.
Everyone knew the ugly history. Lachlan's mother had been driven to suicide by his father's mistress.
That mistress eventually married in and gave birth to Heath.
The brothers maintained a facade of civility, but behind closed doors, each wished the other would drop dead just to get a larger slice of the inheritance.
Elian's team quickly hauled Heath's limp body out of the room.
Yorath pulled a crisp handkerchief from his pocket, elegantly wiping his knuckles clean before tucking it away and returning to his seat.
The entire sequence took barely a minute.
No one dared to breathe.
It suddenly dawned on everyone that Yorath had planned this from the very beginning.
He used Nyssa's birthday to lure them all onto a ship and sail out into international waters.
He had severed all their backup.
Warren spoke up next. "I also have a witness."
Another young woman was brought into the room. She peeked nervously at Ottilie before ducking her head, too terrified to meet anyone's eyes.
"Perry, you were Ottilie's assistant," Warren said. "You were there when it happened. Tell everyone what you saw."
Perry's voice trembled. "The director told us to do a dry run of the scene first, so we tied Ms. Sewell up according to the script... but then she suddenly just snapped. She started screaming like a lunatic and knocked over an oil lamp. The doors were locked, and we couldn't get out. I passed out from the smoke and didn't see anything after that."
Perry was now a rising starlet in the industry, hailed as the darling of the new generation.
She was heavily backed by Warren's agency.
"Perry's testimony confirms Ms. Sewell had a psychotic break and started the fire," Warren stated. "Fabian confirms she blinded Ms. Tarrant. She crippled Mr. Heath and killed multiple people. How can we possibly allow an artist like this to return? What happens if she snaps again? Who takes responsibility when the next person dies?"
Bryce Cameron, who had been quiet until now, added, "That's correct. I was there, and that is exactly what happened."
Kendrick Walden chimed in, "I drove her to the set that morning, and she was already completely unhinged. I even told her she should take the day off if she wasn't feeling well."
