When Ottilie walked out, Yorath emerged from the kitchen wearing an apron. "Let's grab a quick bite. We're meeting Lachlan at eleven."
"Okay." She headed to the dining room as he brought the food out.
Seafood chowder, crab-roe pastries, her favorite pickled mustard greens, and a refreshing cucumber salad.
"When did you learn how to cook?"
"I went through a phase where I lost my appetite for everything, so I started making my own meals."
As they ate, she noticed the dark circles under his eyes. He looked like he hadn't slept at all.
"Sharing a bed with me ruins your sleep. It's going to affect your work," she remarked.
He placed a pastry on her plate. She knew that was her cue to shut up.
The meeting was set at the Sky Garden.
They were the only guests in the entire restaurant.
Lachlan had come alone, without his usual entourage.
Yorath had only brought her.
The menu consisted entirely of high-end seafood and steaks.
Yorath slid the phone across the table. "You left this in the private room last night."
Lachlan picked it up, gave it a casual glance, and tossed it back onto the table.
"I had a bit too much to drink. I didn't even realize I'd lost it until you guys reached out. Thanks."
"You gave Ottilie directions the other night, and we hadn't thanked you properly for it," Yorath replied smoothly.
"It was nothing. Ms. Sewell and I hit it off. I'm always happy to make a new friend. Right?" He flashed her a flawless, devastatingly handsome smile.
Ottilie, who had been trying to stay invisible while eating, suddenly found herself in the spotlight. She offered him a polite smile but said nothing.
Yorath served her a bowl of soup before turning back to Lachlan. "She's not much of a talker. You'll have to excuse her."
Lachlan threw his head back and laughed. "You're a lucky man. A beautiful fiancée and a gorgeous lover at the same time. I'm so jealous I can hardly stand it. When are you marrying Nyssa? Make sure I get an invite so I can toast the happy couple."
"Since when did you care so much about my personal life?"
"Was that notification last night an email from him?"
She looked down at the empty space where her glass used to be.
She realized now that when her phone buzzed last night, Lachlan had indeed sent an email, but Yorath had intercepted and deleted it.
Did he see the contract Lachlan had sent?
"I thought you liked Mr. Walden? How did you change your mind so fast?"
She frowned, genuinely confused. "What?"
Yorath loosened his tie, his jaw clenched tight, his lips pressed into a thin line.
He unbuttoned the top of his shirt, exposing his elegant neckline.
Picking up his fork, he casually placed some food on her plate. "Don't you like me anymore?"
She stared at him, motionless and silent.
He let out a low chuckle. "Cat got your tongue?"
