“Eat this bowl first. Let the other one cool down.”
The Cream of Chicken and Rice Soup was genuinely delicious.
It didn't require much chewing.
Ottilie Sewell finished both bowls.
Yorath Fordham had a massive empire to run; he was incredibly busy.
After the meal, his entourage left for work.
Strapped for cash, Ottilie didn't sit idle. It was hard to find a stable job right now, so she went out handing out flyers.
Fifty bucks a day.
That evening, Yorath’s car drove past the plaza.
He saw her wearing a face mask, handing out flyers amidst the sea of people.
The plaza was crowded, and she was jostled so hard by a few passersby that she stumbled.
Soren saw it too and slowed the car down.
Yorath ordered, “Go to The Empyrean.”
The car accelerated, leaving the plaza behind.
Soren said, “The elder Mr. Fordham is furious.”
Yorath leaned back against the seat and closed his eyes to rest, his handsome features looking sharper than ever.
“Let them be mad. They’ll all die eventually anyway.”
Soren was so startled he nearly rear-ended the car in front of them.
Nyssa Tarrant returned home and locked herself in her room, not stepping out all day.
Jevon Crawford, Elian Zouch, Bryce Cameron, Kendrick Walden, and the others were terrified she might do something drastic. They stood guard downstairs, refusing to leave.
At dusk.
She finally came downstairs.
Sitting on the sofa with bloodshot eyes, she suddenly raised her hand and slapped herself across the face.
She hit herself so hard that it echoed with a sharp smack.
The men instantly jumped to their feet.
By the time Ottilie handed out her last flyer, it was already 6:00 PM.
As she was heading back, she was blocked by several luxury cars.
Kendrick stepped out of one, his attitude far more polite than their last encounter.
“Ms. Sewell, let’s grab dinner together.”
Ottilie glanced at the fleet of cars. She slipped her hand into her pocket and hit record on her voice recorder.
“Being cornered for dinner like this? I wouldn't dare.”
Kendrick assured her, “Don’t worry, it’s strictly professional. Several investors are here. They are respectable people, and we only want to discuss business.”
“I have no business to discuss with any of you.” Ottilie turned to leave.
Kendrick blocked her path. “Ms. Sewell, you’re a smart woman. Let’s speak plainly. I know exactly what you’re thinking. Acting oblivious like this is just a waste of time.”
Ottilie laughed. “Kendrick, you aren't worth the effort of me acting oblivious.”
At that moment, Jevon also stepped out of a car.
He walked up beside Ottilie and said, “Just go. It’ll take an hour, tops. It won't delay you much. When it’s over, I’ll personally drive you home.”
