*[I’ll make the public announcement at the movie’s celebration party.]*
Lachlan replied instantly.
*[Perfect. I’ll be there to back you up. I’m bringing extra security to ensure you stay safe.]*
Ottilie didn't respond to that.
Lachlan was nothing more than a stepping stone to escape Yorath’s grasp.
She meant absolutely nothing to Lachlan. If Yorath seriously decided to destroy her, Lachlan would toss her aside like garbage without a second thought.
Since neither of them could be trusted, she would just play them both.
To this day, Ottilie couldn't understand why all these people blindly assumed she was desperate to return to the entertainment industry.
She had been perfectly happy working at the bakery, making her twenty-eight hundred a month.
Early to bed, early to rise, completely free from the toxic backstabbing of high society.
Plus, she had Yves Walden, a genuinely good man.
She had been perfectly content.
At 3:30 AM.
Nyssa was wide awake.
She drank cup after cup of calming tea, but it did absolutely nothing.
Her eyes were bloodshot from exhaustion, and she still had to wake up early every day to fly across the country for promotional tours.
Unable to watch her spiral, Kendrick brought her some melatonin.
"Nyssa, if you keep running yourself into the ground like this, your health will completely collapse. Then you’ll truly have nothing left."
Nyssa absentmindedly touched her prosthetic eye, her expression twisting into something ugly.
"Ottilie was supposed to be in a dead end. Life in prison, at the very least. Instead, she just coasted for three years in a psychiatric facility. The hospital didn't break her spirit. She laid low, and now that she’s back, she’s coming straight for my throat. I completely botched the first round."
Ottilie had played it flawlessly. Acting submissive, never fighting back openly.
In reality, every single move she made was meticulously calculated, throwing Nyssa’s entire camp into chaos.
"As for Ottilie, she’s just a plaything for his bed. If you even acknowledge her as a rival, you lower your own status."
Nyssa remained silent.
Becoming Yorath’s wife was only one part of her ultimate plan.
In Nyssa’s eyes, Ottilie was far too calculating to be driven by something as trivial as romance.
In the past, Ottilie had been all flash and zero substance, entirely lacking a spine.
But three years of hell had forged iron in her bones. She had learned to hide her fangs in the dark, staring unblinking at her prey, just waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
Nyssa knew better than to underestimate her now.
Seeing Nyssa stay quiet, Kendrick worried she was bottling up her frustration.
He offered a darker solution. "If push comes to shove, we could always hire a few guys to just..."
Nyssa cut him off with a sharp wave of her hand.
"Don't be stupid. Three years ago, we trapped her in a completely flawless setup and she still didn't die. We won't get an opportunity like that again, and trying will only expose us. The stronger the opponent, the greater the challenge. It makes life much more thrilling. If I can't even outplay Ottilie, how am I supposed to marry Yorath, conquer the elite circles, and force all their resources to work for me?"
