Herbert stared expressionlessly at the two photos at the top of the screen.
The person who secretly took the pictures had a very good camera; the images were incredibly clear.
Beneath the dense canopy of sycamore leaves, Winona's head was bowed as she said something, looking a bit flustered, perhaps even shy. Her legs were long and straight, while the boy next to her casually hooked a white earbud cord with one hand, his lowered eyes watching her intently.
From the photo, they actually looked quite good together.
So that small cake... was meant for Jupiter?
An indescribable emotion seized Herbert's chest. He lost his previous composure, sneering coldly as he tossed the phone back at Quentin. "Don't show me this boring garbage."
Quentin raised his eyebrows and pocketed the phone. "Such a strong reaction. Are you jealous?"
"No," Herbert scoffed. "Why would I ever be jealous over Winona? I just find it repulsive."
"Find what repulsive?" Quentin asked.
"I hate that she pulls these stunts just to get my attention," he retorted.
Quentin blinked. "Are you sure she's doing it just to get your attention?"
"What else could it be?" Herbert glanced at him. "Do you honestly think she'd be interested in someone like Jupiter?"
"Highly unlikely," Quentin shook his head.
He initially thought Winona might have moved on, but hearing Herbert put it that way quickly extinguished the idea.
Even though he didn't interact with Winona much, they had still grown up in the same circles.
She had always had a princess complex and demanded only the very best of everything.
Jupiter was dirt poor. There was no way a princess would look twice at him.
By the time the two reached the classroom, the bell had just rung, and the room was filled with noise.
Brighton's tradition was always to choose seats based on grades. Every time seat selection rolled around, Winona would find a way to pair up with a high-ranking student, making sure they chose a spot close to Herbert.
This time, Winona just happened to be seated right behind him.
Herbert's steps faltered for a second.
Winona had been turned sideways, chatting with her desk-mate Sylvia. Hearing footsteps, she glanced up, and upon seeing it was Herbert, calmly averted her gaze.
