Her Revenge Was His Regret (Shirley and Gilbert) novel Chapter 404

"Are you kidding me? There are only the two of us in this room. You little bitch, think you can scare me? Let me tell you—I'm not scared of anything. I could share a room with a dead person and not bat an eye."

Eileen spoke up, "Those women had far worse tricks than you do. Don't think you're special. There's someone else here.

"This is my territory! I know everything that goes on here, and everyone in it! You idiot trying to scare me? You're asking for a beating!"

"Is... that so?"

A deep, impossibly smooth male voice came from the shadowy figure that had looked almost human.

"Ahhh! A ghost! A vengeful spirit is here to kill me!" Eileen shrieked at the top of her lungs.

She spun to run, but the front door was already locked. In her panic, she couldn't figure out how to open it.

Then the lights flipped on.

It wasn't a ghost at all.

Lucas sat with one leg crossed over the other, posture elegant, wearing a tailored suit Sherry had picked out for him. Not a single strand of hair was out of place. He'd clearly rushed over, yet he looked perfectly composed.

A wave of quiet pressure washed over Eileen the moment he sat there, starkly contrasting with the squalor of the room.

"Mr. Harrison," Eileen simpered, her tone groveling, "what a surprise! Look how dirty the floor is—why don't we step outside to talk?"

Anyone who ran a place like this knew everyone's identity, at least all the men's.

Women were never on her radar. In the end, women always had to bow to men, so as long as she kept the men happy, that was enough.

Only a ruthless woman like Julia could make her fear—and of course, Julia paid her handsomely. She was more than willing to play along.

But a family of his stature? That was a line she'd never dare to cross.

"Mr. Harrison," she pressed, growing flustered, "to what do I owe the pleasure? Speak to me!"
