Daniel trailed off mid–sentence, holding back the rest as if thinking better of it.

Zoe balled her hand into a fist, glaring at his unfairly handsome face. “Well? Don’t stop now- finish what you were going to say.”
Her whole posture seemed to warn, “Go ahead, try saying it and see what happens.”
Daniel just smiled and finished lightly, “A woman at thirty… is just coming into her own.”
Zoe let out a soft hmph, relaxed her fist, smoothed down her dress, and fired back, “Don’t tell me after I turned you down those few times, your ego took such a hit you’re scared to date anyone now?”
He scoffed, tilting his chin up proudly. “Please. I’ve walked through gardens without ever getting a petal stuck on me.”
Julian, sitting nearby, pressed his lips together to keep from laughing out loud.
As Daniel’s friend, he knew exactly how much truth was behind that claim.
Zoe’s eyes widened in mock surprise. “Oh… so I was one of those flowers too? You just couldn’t pick me, is that it? Guess I got lucky, huh?”
Daniel shot her a look. “You? You’re hardly a flower. More like a leaf–and a prickly one at that.”
Zoe was seething. She forced a smile, held it in, then took a deep breath.
Whatever, she told herself. Daniel had always liked pushing her buttons, and after all these years, she was used to it.
The wedding car pulled up to the venue and came to a stop.
A crowd had gathered outside, waiting to catch a glimpse of the bride.
They stepped out, and Julian gently took Iris‘ hand, leading her inside.
Behind her delicate lace veil, Iris could only see the ground in front of her. Guided by his steady hand, she walked along the red carpet and slowly entered the grand hall.
The veil was sheer enough that she could make out the opulent, elegantly arranged decor- even words like “breathtaking” didn’t quite capture it.
Rows of guests were seated below the softly lit stage.

The ceremony was traditional yet heartfelt, carried out with reverent simplicity.

First, they exchanged vows. Then they turned to their parents for a blessing. Finally, they faced each other, sharing a promise sealed with a kiss. And just like that, they were married.
By the end, Iris was trembling slightly, her earlier composure completely gone.
Julian knew how shy and reserved she could be in crowds.
So right after the ceremony, he quietly guided her back to the private bridal suite.
Down at the reception, elders from the Whitmore and Everhart families mingled warmly, welcoming their guests.
Upstairs in the suite, Iris sank into the plush bedding, too tired to sit up straight.
Julian came over and gently lifted her lace veil.
Iris looked up at him. Her eyes shone, and her face was so radiant he couldn’t look away.
Seeing the warmth in Julian’s gaze–that tender, loving light–made her blush. She tugged playfully at his sleeve. “It’s not like you’ve never seen me before. Why are you staring like you’re stunned?”
“I’ve seen you, but…” Julian’s Adam’s apple bobbed, his voice coming out low and thick with emotion. “But I’ve never seen you look quite this beautiful. You wear tradition well.”
Iris smiled shyly and glanced down.
Julian turned and picked up two delicate champagne flutes. He sat beside her, handing one over. “To us–to a long life together, always united.”
Iris took her glass, linked arms with him, and they drank.
After placing both glasses on the nightstand, Julian took Iris‘ hand, brought it to his lips, and kissed it softly.
That kiss held years of quiet longing. Finally, his dream had come true.
Iris asked softly, “Julian, would you mind if I took off my jewelry and cleaned off my makeup?”
Julian’s heart went out to her. He hadn’t planned on making her return to the reception anyway.
“Of course. But I have one small request… Will you promise me something?” He gazed at her, eyes hopeful.

Curious, Iris nodded. “What is it?”
“From now on… will you call me ‘honey“?”

A shy smile touched her lips. She lowered her head slightly and nodded again.
Julian gently lifted her chin until her eyes met his. “Since you agreed… let me hear it.”
Even as a newlywed, Iris felt a flutter of bashfulness. Her voice was soft, almost whispered. “Honey.”
Julian’s expression softened, his smile brightening. “One more time.”
“Honey.”
He couldn’t help but grin, sweet and open. Leaning in, he brushed a kiss to her lips and murmured, “Honey… I love you.”
“I love you too,” she whispered back, finally saying the words she’d held close for so long.
Iris placed her hands on his shoulders, closed her eyes, and let him kiss her deeply.
Julian cradled the back of her head, easing her gently onto the bed as their kiss deepened.
Outside the window, the moonlight glowed–beautiful and still, wrapping the night in quiet
