“I understand,” Liana conceded, though her heart ached helplessly watching Theo suffer in pain.

After the doctor left, Rosalind sighed. She looked at Liana with pity. “This poor child. What he really needs is a good mother.”

“Theo has a mother. That’s me. Elian himself gave me the responsibility to be his mom,” Anya quickly interjected, picking up on the subtext.

“I never heard those words come from my grandson’s mouth. All I know is you were the one pushing to take care of him,” Rosalind retorted bluntly.

She turned her gaze back to Liana. “By rights, since Elian adopted Theo, Liana should be his adoptive mother.”

“I treat Theo like my own son. If you want to strip me of being his mom, forget Elian not agreeing-I’ll never agree,” Anya said, tears welling up in her eyes.

“I haven’t done anything yet. Why the waterworks? If you must cry, do it outside. Don’t disturb the child,” Rosalind dismissed, unmoved.

Liana spoke up. “Grandma, can I borrow your phone for a moment?”

“Oh, of course! Give it to her,” Rosalind immediately instructed her driver.

The driver retrieved the phone from Rosalind’s purse and presented it to Liana with both hands. “Mrs. Locke.”

“Thank you.” Liana accepted it.

Anya watched silently, her fingers tightening around her own phone as she observed the Locke family driver’s respectful deference. But what came next shocked her even more.

Liana knows Mrs. Rosalind Locke’s phone password?

Liana unlocked the device, found a contact in the address book-Roy-and dialed.

Rosalind didn’t know who she was calling, but she was perfectly happy to lend her phone.

In fact, she had originally intended to deliver Liana’s phone to the school herself, but her grandson had told her Liana would pick it up from the Manor that evening.

Roy chuckled, “Thoughtful, yes. But does it matter? Your grandson would rather trust an outsider than her.”

Rosalind hadn’t expected that jab and shot him a glare.

It was only then that she remembered-Roy was from Liana’s maternal family line.

Years ago, he’d broken ties with the Keanes for her sake, even changing his surname to his mother’s.

But in the end, they hadn’t ended up together; she’d entered a marriage of alliance with the

Lockes.

She’d found love with her husband and children, but Roy had remained alone all these years, never finding another woman.

So, technically, he was Liana’s great-uncle.

Anya eyed the newcomer with deep suspicion. “His injuries are severe. Please be gentle.”

“Miss, be so kind as to fetch that chair for me,” Roy said without looking at her, his tone mild

but firm.

Anya was taken aback.

“Do as he says,” Rosalind commanded.

“Yes,” Anya replied through gritted teeth, moving to bring over the chair.

A wave of humiliation washed over her. Me, a Forrest, fetching chairs like a servant?

But thoughts of Elian made her swallow her pride.

Seated in the chair Anya had provided, Roy bent to examine Theo. Liana leaned over to help roll up the boy’s sleeve.
