Liana thought of their early days and gave a wry smile. We held hands on the day we got married. And no, we didn’t sleep together immediately.”
“Wait, Mr. Locke is that old-fashioned? He dragged things out?”
Lily couldn’t picture Elian just holding hands and doing nothing else. He didn’t seem the type to procrastinate about anything.
Liana held the phone to her ear with one hand, the other reaching behind her back to fasten her bra clasp. It was stubborn. She was about to give up and hang up when she felt a warmth that wasn’t her own on her back.
He said. “I got it.”
She sat frozen on the edge of the bed as Elian, now beside her, easily fastened the clasp.
She couldn’t help but look up at him. He said nothing, just picked up her nightgown and pulled it gently over her head.
Liana sat there, letting him dress her, her eyes fixed on his face the entire time.
Only after he’d settled the gown did she hear Lily’s voice again from the phone. “Liana? Hello? This weekend trip to Kaelwick-”
“Talk to you tomorrow,” Liana said quickly, hanging up trying to sound calm.
“Going to Kaelwick this weekend?” Elian asked, smoothing the nightgown down over her hips as he spoke.
“Yeah.”
She was still watching him, noticing he was already in his pajamas. She lowered her gaze. “How are you so fast?”
“I felt slow,” he murmured, his deep, unreadable eyes of her. After that cool line, he couldn’t help leaning in again.
Now, clad only in the silky nightgown, she seemed ever more inviting,
Liana felt suddenly awkward, her hands unsure where to rest. She tried to push him away, but the heat of his skin through the thin fabric made her hesitate.
“Liana,” he said, his arm loosely circling her waist. He bought one of her hands to his lips, kissing her knuckles gently. “How long has it been since we were this easy with each other?”
Then he looked at her with that look again.
Liana felt like she was being slow-roasted under his gaze.
Sensing her resistance to intimacy, he changed the subject, still holding her hand. “What’s in Kaelwick?”
“Just wandering around,” Liana replied, trying to sound casual.

Chapter 192 Let’s Make a Baby
She attempted to pull her hand back, but his grip was firm.
She looked up at him helplessly. “Let me go.”
Reluctantly, he released her. She kept her eyes on him and he took a small step back.
A wave of relief washed over her, but she only looked down. “I’m going to check on Theo.”
“Mr. Locke, it’s time for your medicine.”
The nanny stood in the doorway. As Liana approached the woman pressed a small cup of pills into her hand, adding a pleading look. “Mrs. Locke, I’ve been staying here at the hospital for a while. Since you’re both here tonight, could I possibly have a night off? My own grandson is about Theo’s age, and I’d love to spend an evening with him.”
“Okay.”
The request moved Liana, and she agreed without thinking.
But that meant…
Holding the medicine, she turned to look at the man still standing by the bed. So tall and imposing, yet his immune system seemed so weak.
She walked over and opened her palm. “Take it.”
Elian glanced at the capsules in her hand, then took her wrist, lifting her palm to his mouth. His lips brushed her skin as he took the pills.
A damp, warm sensation lingered on her palm. She wiped it hastily on her robe.
Unfazed, Elian took the glass of water from her other hand, took a drink, and swallowed the pills.
Liana turned and left the room immediately.
Elian watched her go, his gaze unconsciously drifting to her waist.
Hmm. Doesn’t feel quite as slim as before.
Her appetite seems better lately.
Maybe she doesn’t hate me quite as much?
Then he remembered her standing before a crowd, declaring she loved someone else. His expression hardened instantly.
He wasn’t angry about the public declaration. He was furious that her heart seemed to exclude him.
Anya claimed she’d invited Liana and Quentin, but Quentin shouldn’t have gone,
Late into the night, Liana was sleeping with Theo on the small bed when she was suddenly, stealthily extracted from the warm cocoon of blankets.
The room temperature was comfortable, but the bed was warmer. The sudden chill woke her.
The person carrying her didn’t stop.
