Chapter 195 A Favor
His spot was impossible to miss.
The parents huddled near the gate. He stood farther back, next to a flashy, pricey car.
He used to keep such a low profile. Lately, though, the cars in his garage had been seeing a lot more daylight.
“We’ll head off then. See you tomorrow,” Chloe said, saying goodbye.
Liana nodded.
“Liana, if you-” Quentin began.
“Oh, Mr. Conrad! I didn’t drive today. Could you give me a ride?” Chloe smoothly intercepted, pulling Quentin away before he could finish.
Chloe thought Quentin simply wasn’t right for Liana.
Two quiet, reserved people together? Real life wouldn’t be as rosy as it sounded.
“Oh, and don’t forget my thing!” Chloe called out, darting back for a second to remind Liana before hurrying off again.
Under the pale moon, everything went still.
The curious glances from onlookers didn’t matter anymore.
She walked toward him. “What are you doing here?”
“Picking you up.” He offered no excuse.
“That’s not necessary. I’m not going to the hospital tonight. I’m staying at Lily’s. It wouldn’t be appropriate to invite you up,” Liana declined smoothly.
Elian smiled faintly, straightening up and closing the distance between them with a few long strides.
He knew she didn’t want to get in his car. But…
“Grandma is at the hospital. Theo told her you’d be there to keep him company, so she insisted on seeing you before she leaves. She asked me to pick you up in person,” he said, looking down at her hand. He took it, his touch natural.
Liana didn’t notice until it was too late-his warm palm wrapping around her cold fingers. By the time she glanced down, her whole hand was clasped tight.
Her chest felt just as warm as her hand. But she didn’t let it cloud her judgment. She looked up at him and asked, “Is Grandma really there?”
Elian met her gaze, then pulled out his phone. Still holding her hand, he dialed a video call to Rosalind.
The call connected. Rosalind’s face lit up upon seeing ana. “Darling, hurry over! I’ve had them prepare soup for you. And little Theo is waiting for you too!”

Chapter 195 A Favor
“Ma’am, come quick!”
Theo popped into view, his little face bright with eagerness, eyes shining with hope.
That real, warm affection made Liana’s resolve crumble right away.
“Okay,” she whispered, caving in.
Finished
Elian still had her hand in his. He led her to the passenger side and held the door open, all old-school gentlemanly charm.
But Liana hesitated, right there in the moment. It was probably last night’s thing making her skittish-afraid she’d fall right back into his trap.
Elian waited by the door, calm and patient, looking totally self-assured.
Liana’s heart raced. The memory of his hands roaming over her body last night-setting every inch of her skin on fire-sent a shiver down her spine.
“Grandma knows you’re close to your cycle. She specifically asked for warm foods to be prepared. Don’t keep her waiting, Elian said, sensing her indecision.
He knew exactly why she hesitated. And he was confident he could handle it.
Hearing him mention her cycle, and remembering Chloe’s plea, Liana hardened her resolve and got in.
Chloe was stuck in an abusive marriage. She asked for a divorce, and her husband retaliated hard—he moved his girlfriend into their home, slept with her in Chloe’s bed, and blackmailed her-pay him ten million dollars in compensation, or he’d keep terrorizing her and squatting in her house for good.
Chloe had talked to several lawyers, but the guy was like a nightmare-impossible to get rid of.
She’d begged Liana to ask Elian for help. Liana had called Nathan, but Nathan said he was Elian’s subordinate and couldn’t take the case on his own.
It was a lame excuse-he ran his own law firm, after all, and took on all kinds of clients.
But Chloe’s situation was urgent.
Liana wasn’t being a hero or anything; she hadn’t promised her a thing. But they’d been classmates, and now they were colleagues. When Liana saw the bruises on Chloe’s arms, she couldn’t say no.
The sports car pulled away from the school, and a few parents chuckled, nodding in approval.
The growl of a luxury engine-that was every guy’s dream.
Since when had Elian stopped keeping a low profile?
He usually drove that stately Rolls.
But after Quentin came by and told him to leave Liana alone…
Yes. He’d anticipated Quentin would be here tonight.
It was a male territorial instinct. He wanted Quentin to know, in every possible way, that he was no match
