Chapter 22 The Choice
Seeing his wife’s red-rimmed eyes, David quickly soothed her and called their son.
Elian didn’t answer. And there was no news from him all night.
The next morning, dark clouds gathered.

“Sources indicate that three years ago, when Mr. Locke and his first love broke up due to a misunderstanding, she was already pregnant. On the very night of their breakup, the current Mrs. Locke wasted no time getting him drunk and then forced him into marriage with a fake pregnancy. But stolen happiness never lasts. Now Mr. Locke has reunited with his first love, and they are raising their child together at Westhaven Estates. After three years without producing an heir, Mrs. Locke should do the decent thing and divorce him immediately, instead of embarrassing all women.”
A gloomy atmosphere fell over the Lockes. Everyone tried calling Elian, but his phone remained
unanswered.
Rosalind and Linda stood firmly by Liana. “Liana, don’t worry. As long as we’re here, we won’t let them twist the truth. That brat won’t be marrying that woman as long as he wants to stay in this family.”
“Mm.”
Liana said nothing else.
On her drive to work, she tried calling Elian herself. He didn’t pick up.
The moment she arrived at school, people who knew she was married to him pointed and whispered. Liana’s face burned with shame.
Lily was furious. “Look at you all, with all your education! You believe whatever garbage you read online? Bunch of fools.”
Liana didn’t feel any better during class. A student suddenly raised a hand. “Ms. Keane, are you really that shameless woman from the news?”
“They just had a fight and broke up, and you swooped in that same night. A woman like you shouldn’t be teaching us.”
“Get out! Get out!”
With someone leading, the classroom of over forty students erupted. They started throwing whatever they could get their hands on at her.
Quentin, passing by, immediately walked in and stood in front of her. He turned to the class. “How do you know what’s online is true? She’s taught here for years-ome of you had her in eighth grade. Think back on how she’s treated you. Ask your conscience.”
“You all need to learn to tell fact from fiction. You’re online all the time. You know things on the internet can be fake, right?” Quentin continued, seeing them slowly quiet down.
The room finally fell silent, all eyes on Liana.
“Thank you, Mr. Conrad. Let’s get back to class.” Liana sill opened her textbook.

That evening, as she returned to her apartment building, she saw Anya standing at the entrance, holding Theo, looking pitifully at her.
Before Liana could react, something heavy struck the back of her head. Everything went black.
She’d been kidnapped.
When the sack was pulled from her head, she found herself tied up, sitting on the floor, unable to move. But she wasn’t the only captive. There were two others.
“Daddy, Daddy…”
“Don’t be scared, Theo. Daddy will come save us soon.”
Hearing the voices, Liana looked over. Her heart lurched.
Anya’s chest was cut, bleeding heavily. Yet she still held the child protectively. Her face was pale from blood loss.
They’d been kidnapped right after news broke about Elan’s child. Why?
Liana didn’t know how Anya got her wound, but aside from being tied up, she herself hadn’t been harmed. So, this was likely about money.
