All eyes followed him as he made his way across the cafeteria, stopping beside their table.

He stood next to her, his voice calm and clear, soothing the excited buzz in the room. “Sorry, but Theo keeps looking for you.”

Lily and Quentin, sitting opposite Liana, had a clear view of the little boy clambering onto Liana’s lap.

Liana’s emotions churned chaotically, but she kept her voice low. “Can you please take him?”

“But he only wants you right now,” Elian explained patiently.

The staff and students around them were bewildered.

They knew Liana didn’t have children, and they knew Elian was her husband.

So the rumors were true? Liana’s husband had a child with another woman?

Why was he bringing the child here? Was he forcing her to be an instant stepmom?

Feeling the weight of dozens of curious stares, Liana looked down. Theo was gazing up at her with pitiful, pleading eyes. “Hug.”

She scooped him into her arms immediately and walked out of the cafeteria, holding him close.

Lily and Quentin remained silent. Elian gave them a polite nod before turning to follow Liana.

“Do you notice this kid looks nothing like Elian?” Lily whispered to Quentin.

“Did

you notice Elian doesn’t seem to plan on divorcing Liana?” Quentin countered, watching their retreating figures.

He even had a bold guess-Elian wanted Liana to accept Theo and keep living together.

Outside, the hallway was quieter. Liana turned on him. “Why did you bring him here?”

“Hmm?” He feigned ignorance.

“To make sure my colleagues know you cheated? Your kid with Anya has been all over Twitter

You didn’t need to pull this stunt.” Liana kept up the hard hit, no mercy.

for

ages.

“This is my alma mater. I brought my son to see where I went to school. Is that a crime?” he replied smoothly.

“Your… what?” Liana was taken aback. Summit High was his alma mater?

“So you really don’t remember me at all,” Elian added.

He was always so composed, so in control. It made her head buzz.

“I need to take this.” His phone rang. With a brief nod, he walked away to answer it.

Liana didn’t have class that afternoon, but she never expected to be stuck babysitting.

Theo clung to her. Back in the teachers’ lounge, colleagues couldn’t resist asking, “Ms. Keane, he seems to really like you! Are you thinking of taking him in? Like a legal guardian?”

“Like an empress raising a concubine’s child in those period dramas?” another teacher, an avid fan of palace intrigue shows, chimed in.

“I heard the birth mother is from a prominent family. You have to win the boy over, Liana, and keep Mr. Locke close. Don’t let that woman drive a wedge between you and force a divorce!”

“Exactly! We’re behind you. Take the child, and find a way to make him cut ties with her for good!”

Their support was enthusiastic and unconditional, if somewhat melodramatic.

Liana found it both amusing and absurd. Too much TV.

Theo, happily munching on snacks offered by her colleagues, kept trying to share them with Liana.

It was strange. Given how much Anya despised her, the child shouldn’t be this attached.

Yet here he was, offering her a chip with a sweet, generous gesture, Liana even felt a weird illusion-like being doted on.

Later, prompted by Elian’s words, she went to the school archives.

No one had ever mentioned Elian was a Summit High alumnus.

They were the same age; her birthday was just two months after his. If he’d studied here, they would have been in the same year, maybe even crossed paths.

She couldn’t quite believe it, but she found his record.

No wonder Summit High School had a century of glory. Someone like Elian studied here and it never got out. The school was steady as a rock, the kind that held onto being top ranking for years.
