Chapter 6 I Shouldn’t Have Hidden the Child
“I’m not pregnant. If I’m lying, I’ll fail the civil service exam this year.”
She decided to gamble.
She’d been studying since the beginning of the year. He knew how important this exam was to her.
Elian didn’t pause for a second.

Panic set in. She watched helplessly as he carried her into the hospital lobby, heading straight for the elevators.
She had to keep trying.
“Ever since I found out about your child, I’ve lost my appetite. And yesterday, I saw you with Anya and the baby, a perfect family… Elian, you’re my husband. You treated me so well these two years. I can’t just shrug it off. I’m mad at you.”
Elian stopped walking. He looked down, his eyes meeting hers.
Staring into his dark, unfathomable gaze, Liana found the words pouring out, becoming more and more genuine.
“I can’t stop picturing you and Anya having sex. Every time you touch me, I feel sick.”
Elian’s expression darkened instantly.
But before he could say anything, his phone rang in his pocket.
He carefully set her down and pulled out the phone. Seeing it was Anya, he frowned slightly.
“Take your call. I’ll go to my mom’s room.”
Liana thought the crisis might be over.
She started to leave, but a strong arm immediately wrapped around her waist, pulling her back.
Elian held her firmly against him with one arm and answered the call. “What is it?”
His tone was always so flat, laced with detachment.
Liana tried to pull away. Elian glanced down, a warning in his eyes, and tightened his grip.
It was just past six in the morning, and the hospital elevator area was getting busy. Elian led her, under the curious stares of patients and staff, into the staff elevato
“Baby is asking for Daddy. I was thinking of bringing him to the office with me today, if that’s okay?” Anya’s voice was soft on the other end.
“Fine,” he replied, pinning Liana between himself and the elevator wall, his eyes locked on hers.
Liana was shocked and hurt. She couldn’t help but look up at him.
Did he realize that letting Anya bring the baby to the office meant everyone would know about their child?

What about her?
“Sweetie, we’ll see Daddy soon! See you later. Oh, I’m bringing your favorite breakfast to the office.”
Anya’s tone was sweet and playful.

He couldn’t help a tiny smile, then said to the phone while looking at Liana. “Anya, you’ve had a rough few days.”
Liana saw a strange sense of peace on his face. A peace he shared with another woman.
By the time she snapped out of it, tears were already tracing down her delicate cheeks.
Turns out she still cared.
How could he be so tender with his ex right in front of her?
Then again, she wasn’t just an ex.
Anya was the heiress of the Forrest family, the woman Elian couldn’t have-the one he’d once pursued.
Liana knew the moment Anya came back, she had lost.
She didn’t even have the right to fight back.
A wave of despair washed over her. After he hung up, she asked, her voice trembling, “Why won’t you divorce me?”
By all logic, with a woman like Anya returning with his child, he should be rushing to divorce her and marry Anya instead.
Elian slid the phone back into his pocket. One hand remained on her slender waist. He looked down at her, silent.
Liana searched his eyes for an answer but found none.
Finally, he spoke, his voice low and unsettlingly compelling, “I promised to take care of you and your mom for life when we married.”
Hearing those words before would have melted her heart. Their first sex wasn’t just about his physique or their marital status; it was also about his dedication, which moved her deeply.
He traveled often, but every time he returned, he took care of every little thing for her.
She’d been raised to be fiercely independent by her mother until she met him.
He had said, “With me here, I’ll handle everything at home.”
That one sentence was enough for Liana to fall completely.
The elevator continued its ascent. He watched her reddened eyes, and something tugged inside him. “About the kid-I shouldn’t have kept it from you.”
Liana held her breath.
Elian tightened his arm around her waist, his thumb strking her cheek. “I’m sorry.”

The fortress Liana had built around her heart crumbled instantly.
This belated apology was also his declaration of Anya and the baby’s place in his life.
She was speechless. Then, her stomach let out a low, unmistakable growl.

Elian glanced down at her abdomen, a flicker of amusement in his eyes. He suggested softly, “Breakfast first?”
“If I recall correctly, Ms. Forrest just said she brought your favorite breakfast to the office.”
Liana refused to share a meal with him.
“But I’d rather have breakfast with my wife.”. His voice was a low rumble.
He was certain now-she was jealous. Her jealousy seemed rather intense.
He’d just have to coax her slowly. She wasn’t hard to placate. It shouldn’t be long before she was lying beneath him again, soft and willing.
Yes, he missed her.
But the look in Liana’s eyes now made him uneasy.
Elian quickly averted his gaze, looking at the elevator doors. “I swear, since our marriage, there has been no other woman.”
Liana seized the moment to ask, “When did you actually get back from that trip? How did you get home so fast after our call ended?”
Elian’s eyes narrowed. He let out an irritated sigh. “I came back two days early. Theo’s fever was dangerously high. That’s why I returned.”
