Chapter 79 Whether to Tell Him the Truth
Liana asked again.
“I’m not going anywhere tonight. I just wanna sleep with you, really sleep, okay?”
He said it and felt a pang of self-pity.
It felt like a lifetime since they’d shared a bed, though rationally, it hadn’t been that long.
Liana didn’t buy it, but she only said softly, “Go take a shower.”
“Okay.”

He agreed, but couldn’t help asking. “What will it take?o make you believe there’s nothing between Anya and me?”
“I literally saw you at lunch, arm around her, ordering your buddies not to pressure her to drink ever again.”
Her reminder was delivered casually, without accusation, yet it stung like a slap.
Elian’s expression tightened as he remembered the scene.
Liana didn’t argue. Calmly, she reminded him again. “Go shower.”
Frustration churned inside him. He cupped her face, kissed her hard on the mouth, then finally let go and headed for the door.
At the threshold, he turned back. “Hey, honey?”
That one word knocked Liana’s heart clean off course.
“What’s the door code?”
He’d tried their birthdays, their anniversary, her mother’s birthday, even the date of the miscarriage. Nothing worked.
“Go. Shower.”
She planned to lock the bedroom door once he was in the shower. If he stayed, he could take the couch or the little bed next door.
But then she heard the faint click of a key being turned in the lock.
She sat up fast, then remembered the spare key had always been hanging on the door.
While he showered, his phone rang twice. It was Anya both times.
Liana watched it, not answering. But a sinking feeling settled in her gut-the man who’d just vowed to stay the night would leave.
She made a silent bet with herself.
He returned, wearing matching pajamas, and slid into bed behind her, his arm settling naturally around her waist.

“Are we wearing too much?” he murmured after a moment, his voice warm against her neck.
“Anya just-” she began.
His phone rang again. He reached over, glanced at the screen, and declined the call.
Liana, watching him closely, asked, “Aren’t you going to answer? That’s the third time.”
“Tonight is just for you,” he insisted, his gaze holding hers.
Sometimes, the sincerity in his eyes felt so real it created dangerous illusions, making her want to believe every word.
“I’ll make it up to you, okay? From now on, I’m all your Once you’re better, let’s have a baby girl. I promise, she

“And what about Anya and Theo?” Liana asked, her tone deliberately level.
We should keep Theo. Anya-
His phone cut him off, vibrating insistently.
Whatever Anya said this time, it worked. His arm slid from under her neck. Still in his pajamas, he was up and out the door in moments.
The apartment fell silent again. The bed grew cold.
Liana turned over, pulled out her phone, and saw Lily’s earlier message.
“Tell him Theo isn’t his son, you dummy!”
Her expression darkened. Should I?
If she told him, would he still drop everything every time Anya called?
She’d analyzed his relationship with Anya. They’d definitely been intimate. Whether it continued after his. marriage was unclear. But Anya daring to pass off another man’s child as his meant they had dated for sure.
So then what?
Liana didn’t know whether to tell him the truth about Theo.
What if he already knew? He might hate her for exposing the humiliation-raising another man’s son for so long.
Theo was sweet. But thinking back, the boy didn’t resemble Elian at all.
Exhausted by her thoughts, Liana finally fell asleep. She woke the next morning with a wave of nausea and rushed to the bathroom.
The smell of something cooking wafted from the kitchen, making her retch even more violently.
Afterward, she stared at her pale, tear-streaked reflection in the mirror. Before she could process anything, the scent of oatmeal hit her again, a sudden buzz in her skull.
She turned, and there was a tall, straight-backed man at the door.

He wore a crisp dark-blue shirt and black slacks, sleeves rolled to the elbow, watching her quietly.
After breakfast. I’m taking you for an endoscopy,” he stated matter-of-factly, then turned to leave.
Liana stared at his retreating back, then followed him mechanically into the kitchen.
“When did you get back? How did you get in?” she asked, curious.

Liana walked into the lichen and stopped behind him.
