His Last Command Came Back to Kill Him novel Chapter 109

They had stood outside like beggars all morning, ignored and dismissed.

Yet a single, casual word from Yelena magically opened the doors.

This "fair competition" was a rigged game from the start—a calculated humiliation designed to remind Whitley that no amount of hard work could compete with someone else's privilege.

Whitley didn't care what sick game Clive was playing by letting them in.

As long as she got through the door, she had a fighting chance.

Inside the tea room, the air was cool and fragrant.

The moment Mr. Weaver saw Clive, he practically leaped out of his chair to shake his hand. "Mr. Sherwood! It is an absolute honor. Had I known you were coming, I would have prepared a much better venue."

Clive offered a polite nod. "We're here for business. I'm just accompanying my family. Please, focus on them."

Even so, no one in the room would dare ignore him.

Weaver chuckled warmly. "I actually saw you at the Zenith Estate last weekend but didn't want to intrude. It's my property—let me know the next time you visit."

Whitley's heart went numb.

Last weekend. The night Leroy had spiked a fever.

Clive had claimed he was out of town on a business trip. But the truth was, he had been right here, enjoying a romantic getaway with Yelena.

A bitter, hollow laugh echoed in her mind.

Yelena smiled brightly. "We'll definitely let you know next time, Mr. Weaver."

The assistant ushered everyone to their seats. Yelena sat intimately close to Clive, looking entirely at home.

Weaver finally turned his attention to Josiah, his eyes lingering on Whitley. "And who might this be?"

Whitley offered a professional nod. "Hello, Mr. Weaver. I'm the technical lead for Mr. Zimmerman's firm, Whitley Nash."

She didn't use the Sherwood name, strictly maintaining her professional boundaries.

She even ran a three-year revenue simulation, painting a vivid picture of the project's massive potential.

"Based on this technical path, once the project scales, the annual net profit will conservatively break eight figures. The technological barrier to entry is immense, making it virtually impossible to replicate."

Weaver's eyes lit up with genuine interest.

Yelena let out a soft, dismissive laugh. "It's a beautiful concept, but it's far too idealistic. The risk is astronomical."

Clive continued to sip his tea, completely unfazed.

Weaver was clearly leaning toward Whitley's numbers, but he looked directly at Clive, chuckling.

"You have an excellent eye for these things, Mr. Sherwood. Which proposal would you invest in?"

Clive set his teacup down, his tone completely detached. "I'm an outsider. I wouldn't presume to tell you how to spend your money."

"But if it were your money, what would you choose?" Weaver pressed.
