His Last Command Came Back to Kill Him novel Chapter 111

Whitley could barely stand. She didn't have the energy to play along.

"Thanks for the tip," she muttered, gripping Josiah Zimmerman’s arm as she climbed into the car.

Yelena Nash’s smile froze. She hadn't expected Whitley to actually agree.

Clive Sherwood calmly instructed his driver, "Take them down the mountain."

Whitley was practically dragging her feet by the time they reached the nearest hospital. The driver reported back to Clive, who merely gave a dismissive hum. He continued his conversation with Yelena, completely indifferent to whether his wife lived or died.

At the hospital, Whitley was hooked up to an IV. The doctor sternly warned her against exhaustion and sun exposure, stating that another collapse could have severe consequences.

Lying in the hospital bed, she glanced at the ointment Yelena had "charitably" tossed her way. It felt like a sick joke. She chucked it into the trash.

Josiah looked at her pale, drawn face, consumed by guilt. "This is all my fault. I shouldn't have dragged you out to pitch for investments when you're this sick."

"It’s not your fault," Whitley said softly. "The project is solid. We just don't have the right backing. We’ll find someone else."

But she knew the truth. Most investors in the market wanted to stay on Clive's good side. With one word from him, no one would dare touch their project.

She barely slept that night. Fighting through the physical ache, she frantically reached out to every investor in her network. Her messages vanished into the void.

Whitley’s head snapped up. "Chisholm... thank you."

He chuckled softly. "It's just a favor. It might save his company, but it doesn't solve our problem."

"I saw the news," Whitley said. "The National Health Authority is holding an open call for projects next month. If we pass, we get federal backing." She paused, her voice darkening. "But we’re stuck in this plagiarism scandal. We won't even pass the initial background check. Until we clear our name, we're paralyzed."

Chisholm tapped his fingers on the desk, his expression turning serious. "The NHA bid is a long shot right now. But I can get you another opportunity. And you can cancel any ideas about a press conference."

He met her eyes. "The Vance Group is hosting a medical equipment summit the day after tomorrow. Investors, expert reviewers, and the media will all be there. You can publicly display your data and raw logs there. Exposing the truth in front of the entire industry is a hundred times more effective than a solo press release."
