Whitley shook her head slightly. "There's no point."
She had already learned the hard way that the person who held a man's heart could act with total impunity.
She had bruised and battered herself trying to fight for the tiniest fraction of his affection. Now, she only wanted to pour her energy into herself.
Yelena had an impressive resume and powerful backing, but the industry was never short on geniuses.
If she wanted to reach the highest platforms, it would inevitably require Clive paving the way with mountains of cash.
If Whitley let herself get angry over things like that, she would have died of a stress-induced heart attack a long time ago.
As the lab’s previous project wrapped up, a new initiative was quickly put on the schedule.
Recent government policies heavily favored pharmaceutical innovations, and the lab was aiming to secure a national-level grant to develop applications that could genuinely hit the market.
For the past few days, Whitley had been buried in research papers, refining models and tearing down technical roadblocks one by one.
After a few brainstorming sessions, Chisholm was completely blown away by her foundational knowledge and sheer ingenuity. "Have you ever thought about taking the lead technical role for the national grant project?"
"The position is still open, and Mr. Prescott actually wants you for it."
"I can talk to him. It wouldn't be a problem."
With Whitley's current capabilities, she could easily command the room.
Whitley frowned slightly, falling silent for a moment.
"Let's wait."
Given the current state of her health, she wasn't even sure she'd survive the timeline of a major research project.
Moreover, she had no desire to repeat her past mistakes, staking her entire life and identity on a single endeavor.
"Both of our companies are developing new drugs targeting the exact same markers. When the supply chains, partners, and investors saw that the Nash family has Clive backing them, they all defected. No one is willing to work with us anymore."
She should have known Clive wouldn't do the Zimmerman family a favor out of the goodness of his heart.
His so-called "help" was nothing more than a convenient way to elevate Yelena, earn points with the Nash family, and completely sever the Zimmermans' lifelines at the same time.
"The only domestic manufacturing line capable of meeting our impurity control standards took their order and unilaterally canceled our contract."
Josiah's voice was heavy with exhaustion. "The other smaller factories don't have the tech. They can't produce our formula."
In the blink of an eye, their research, production, and commercial partnerships had all been strangled.
Whitley took a deep breath, pushing down the suffocating tightness in her chest. Her voice remained steady. "Keep pushing the project forward. Our clinical data and molecular designs are much more solid than theirs. In the end, the efficacy of the drug will speak for itself."
But deep down, she knew the brutal truth. When faced with an absolute monopoly of capital and resources, having better technology was rarely enough to survive.
