His Last Command Came Back to Kill Him novel Chapter 64

Since Yelena had been recommended by Dr. Landon, kicking her out directly would inevitably rub him the wrong way and could even stall the project's momentum.

Chisholm waved it off. "Don't worry. Dr. Landon is a reasonable man. He knows how to separate business from personal matters."

"I'll set up a time for us to meet with him and clear the air. It won't affect the project."

Whitley nodded, the tension in her chest easing slightly.

With the project at its most critical juncture, any variables could trigger a chain reaction. Resolving this smoothly was the best possible outcome.

She just prayed Clive wouldn't stick his nose into it.

For the rest of the day, Whitley threw herself entirely into verifying the data.

Whenever her body ached, she forced herself to rest for a few minutes every hour, powering through until the core numbers were checked.

By the time she finally looked up, the sky outside the window had turned completely dark.

As she packed her things to leave, her phone buzzed on the desk. The screen flashed with the name "Vivienne."

Whitley paused, then answered, her voice even. "Hello, Vivienne."

Vivienne's voice came through sharply. "Whitley, head to The Zenith Grand right now. I have some friends flying in from overseas who need entertaining. I need you here to help host."

These kinds of social duties were always thrust upon Whitley.

She was elegant, attentive, and perfectly articulate, always knowing exactly what to say.

In the Sherwood family's social circles, everyone praised Clive's wife for being gracious and well-mannered, and Vivienne loved parading her around as the perfect trophy daughter-in-law.

Whitley rubbed her temples. "Vivienne, I'm exhausted today. I really don't have the time. Could we maybe..."

She was getting a divorce.

She didn't need to jump through these meaningless hoops anymore.

She used to do it to please Clive.

But there was no reason to now.

"I heard you've already taken her to a few specialists, and still nothing?"

Vivienne took a slow sip of her drink. "She's taken hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of holistic medicine, and her checkups were fine. I have no idea what the problem is."

Mrs. Weaver suggested, "Maybe the doctors just aren't good enough? I know a specialist from overseas. Have your daughter-in-law see him tomorrow."

Vivienne glanced up. "Alright."

Just then, she caught sight of Whitley standing in the doorway.

"Whitley? We were just talking about you." She waved her over quickly. "You're going to see a doctor with me tomorrow."

Whitley's heart skipped a beat.

A doctor.

This was going to be a disaster.

Her medical condition wouldn't stay hidden for much longer.
