After finishing her procedures at the hospital, Whitley didn't linger. She hailed a ride straight to PurePath Biologics.
The ZENOVA-01 project had already completed its clinical trials.
It was a high-priority, heavily monitored initiative, and they were at the critical stage of verifying the data. Every second counted.
This was the project she had poured her heart and soul into, sacrificing countless nights of sleep. She valued it more than anything else.

Arriving at the institute, Whitley headed upstairs.
Just as she turned the corner, before she even reached the main lab doors, she heard Yelena's voice echoing down the hall.
"I need a straight answer today. If you don't let me join the research lab, I'm quitting right now," Yelena demanded.
"And you won't get off easy either. Let me tell you, if I leave, Dr. Landon is taking the project with him. PurePath won't be able to handle the fallout."
She was an elite scholar with dual doctorates who had studied abroad. She felt she was doing PurePath a favor by being there.
Yet they only let her act as a glorified secretary organizing files.
How was that fair?
The surrounding staff exchanged awkward glances, their faces full of hesitation, but no one dared to speak up.
Yelena had pulled strings to bring Dr. Landon onto the project, making him a core member, and she was clearly using that leverage to act untouchable.
Whitley stopped in her tracks, watching the drama unfold with a completely blank expression.
She walked straight toward the commotion.
"Then get out."
Instantly, the hallway went dead silent.
Everyone turned to look at Whitley. She stood there, her face calm and completely unbothered.
Yelena whipped around, her brow furrowing when she saw Whitley.
"Whitley, who do you think you are making decisions? Do you own this institute?" she snapped. "You're just an assistant on paper, and you think you're actually important? I didn't want to make this ugly. But who gave you the authority?"
Whitley didn't specify whose marriage Yelena was ruining.
If she did, Clive would lose his mind, and she wouldn't come out of it unscathed either.
She wasn't that stupid.
But Yelena was clearly rattled.
Knowing she was in the wrong, she choked on her words. "What kind of garbage are you making up? Disgusting."
Her face pale, she glared at them both, spun on her heel, and stormed off, making sure to slam the door with a deafening crash on her way out.
With the drama over, the hallway fell quiet again.
Whitley took a slow sip from her glass, her voice devoid of emotion. "Finally, some peace and quiet."
Chisholm shrugged, offering a helpless smile. "I told you we shouldn't have brought her on in the first place. More trouble than she's worth."
Whitley frowned slightly, setting her glass down. "Dr. Landon isn't going to be happy about this."
