His Last Command Came Back to Kill Him novel Chapter 76

She took a half-step forward, her voice ringing out with crystal clarity.

"Plagiarizing patents, then maliciously framing the actual creator—I'm going to investigate every single piece of this."

"These aren't things you can just steal and claim as your own. Stolen goods never last."

Beside them, Xander let out a mocking snort. "Still stubbornly in denial, aren't you?"

"Whitley, you know damn well who the real thief is here. Stealing someone else's life wasn't enough for you, you had to steal her husband too. You're so incredibly greedy, there's no low you won't sink to."

Whitley's gaze shifted directly to Xander. "You really have a talent for twisting the truth, Xander. Why don't you ask Yelena if she has the guts to walk arm-in-arm with Clive in public?"

"As long as I'm not divorced, Yelena is nothing but a rat hiding in the gutter."

A creature of the dark.

Forced to scurry in the shadows.

With that, Whitley grabbed Chisholm's arm and walked away.

Yelena's face turned a nasty shade of pale.

Xander spat, "She stole your life and still acts like she has the moral high ground!"

Yelena took a deep breath. "Clive and I have a perfectly clean relationship. Her petty insults can't destroy that."

Chisholm kept pace closely behind Whitley as she power-walked away.

Her steps were steady, but her back was rigid with tension. Her voice was pitched low. "We have to investigate this thoroughly. Starting from the source of the data leak, we cannot miss a single link."

"Agreed. We need a full audit," Chisholm replied, his tone heavy. "We can't afford this delay."

"With the project stalled, every subsequent process grinds to a halt."

"The lab's aging equipment desperately needs replacing. We were banking on this approval to secure the funding loan. Without it, our lab won't even pass the certification standards."

"If we don't update that equipment, our future R&D is dead in the water. If this drags on, PurePath will collapse."

Whitley paused her steps, her fingers curling into fists.

She knew the stakes better than anyone.

They had built PurePath Biologics from the ground up, brick by brick. She hadn't relied on a single cent of the Sherwood family's money; it was entirely born of her and Chisholm's hard work and connections.

This new drug was the company's lifeline. It was the only source of power and independence she had in this miserable life.

If the funding dried up and the lab shut down, years of her agonizing effort truly would be destroyed.

She categorized, highlighted, and filed each piece of evidence, her fingers flying across the keyboard.

Outside the window, the sky gradually darkened, and the city lights flickered to life. Inside, only a single desk lamp illuminated the room.

Whitley worked with a slight frown, so fiercely focused on proving her innocence that she didn't even stop for a sip of water.

Just then, her phone buzzed on the desk, the screen lighting up.

Clive Sherwood.

Whitley stared at the screen. After several seconds of silence, she finally swiped to answer.

She didn't speak first.

From the other end came the man's deep, indifferent voice, the faint clinking of silverware echoing in the background.

He said, "I sent you a location. Come over for dinner."

Whitley had no time to play his games. "Do you need something?"

Unless it was about the divorce, she had absolutely nothing to say to him.

Clive's tone was flat. "Come celebrate your sister securing the R&D project at Marmont. We're having a family dinner."
