His Last Command Came Back to Kill Him novel Chapter 94

Downstairs in the dining room, breakfast was already laid out.

Seeing her descend, Bonnie immediately waved her over with a warm smile. "Whitley, come have breakfast."

"I had the chef prepare a special nutrient-rich breakfast just for you. You've been working so hard lately, you're practically skin and bones."

Whitley took a deep breath to settle her nerves, walked over, and took a seat. "Thank you, Bonnie."

Bonnie had always adored her, and it wouldn't be right to take out her anger toward Clive on the elderly woman.

The matriarch noticed she looked a little pale and casually mentioned as she passed her a warm bowl of oatmeal, "With the storm last night, when Clive left to drive Yelena, I was worried. I called him specifically and told him to come back."

"You don't have your car and it was pouring out. It's ridiculous for a husband to be away from home on a night like that."

"When you're finished eating, have him drive you home."

Just as she finished speaking, Clive, fully dressed in a tailored suit, strolled downstairs at a leisurely pace.

"Come eat," Bonnie called out to him.

He walked straight over and sat next to Whitley. Glancing at her oatmeal, he naturally reached for a warm, savory pastry from the platter and set it on her plate. "You love these. Have more. Even Grandma says you're looking thin."

In front of his grandmother, he always played the part of the devoted, considerate husband flawlessly.

Whitley stared at the pastry on her plate, finding the gesture unbelievably pathetic.

In their three years of marriage, she had never liked that kind of pastry. She practically never touched them.

If he paid even the slightest bit of attention—even out of pure habit—he would have known that.

But he didn't.

Because those pastries were Yelena's favorite.

His performance was so careless, so incredibly lazy.

Whitley ignored the pastry and quietly finished her oatmeal.

After the matriarch stood up and excused herself, leaving the two of them alone in the dining room, Whitley broke the silence.

She set down her silverware and turned to look at him. "You don't need to put on this terrible performance of a doting husband anymore."

"Even if it doesn't exhaust you, it makes me sick to watch."

Clive cast a flat glance at her but didn't say a word.

No doubt he felt equally sickened having to play the role of a loving partner in front of her.

Most of her personal savings had already been drained to cover household expenses over the years. With only a fraction left to pay her rent and survive, this legal fee plunged her into immediate financial distress.

Even though Clive had signed the settlement, she was terrified of what tricks he might pull next. She needed a backup plan.

"I am so pissed off! What a bitch!"

Whitley had barely set her bag down at her desk when she heard Zinnia's furious outburst.

She walked over. "What's going on? Why are you screaming first thing in the morning?"

Zinnia shoved her phone right into Whitley's face. "Look at what Yelena just posted. She did this specifically to make you sick!"

Whitley's stomach plummeted as she took the phone.

The newest update featured a photo of an OBGYN ultrasound appointment slip next to a glass of water. The caption was oozing with gloating arrogance: [Thanks to a certain someone for staying by my side through the whole appointment. So grateful for you! ~]

And in the corner of the frame, there was no mistaking the familiar, expensive watch strapped to Clive's wrist.
