His Last Command Came Back to Kill Him novel Chapter 95

Leroy had even commented underneath: [Clive is spoiling you rotten. We're all so jealous.]

It was like a bucket of ice water had been dumped over her head. Whitley's fingertips went numb, and all the color drained from her face.

Last night, he had forced her to put on a show of marital unity at their anniversary dinner, only to turn around and escort Yelena to her prenatal checkup this morning. The way he so casually trampled on her dignity proved exactly how cold-blooded he truly was.

Seeing how pale she looked, Zinnia rushed to comfort her. "Don't let it get to you. She's just doing this to provoke a reaction."

Whitley forced back the lump forming in her throat and handed the phone back, her voice raspy. "I'm fine."

"You call this fine? She's practically dancing on your grave!" Zinnia fumed. "Call Clive right now and confront him!"

Whitley didn't respond. She pulled out her own phone to dial his number, but an incoming call from the hospital cut her off.

A strange sense of dread gripped her heart as she hit answer.

The nurse's voice on the other end was professional but utterly freezing. "Is this Ms. Nash? Your grandmother's VIP suite has been vacated and assigned to another patient. Please come to the hospital immediately to process the paperwork for her transfer to a standard room."

Whitley froze in absolute shock. "Why is she suddenly being moved? I've been paying the fees on time."

"The transfer was authorized by Mr. Sherwood. We were informed the suite is required for Ms. Yelena Nash's upcoming delivery. We're simply following instructions."

In that moment, the blood in her veins seemed to solidify.

He wasn't just accompanying Yelena to her appointments. He had actually stolen the private suite where her frail grandmother was recovering just so Yelena could use it for her delivery.

What had she been compromising for? What had she secretly been holding out hope for?

Noticing Whitley shaking violently, Zinnia urgently asked, "What is it? What happened?"

Whitley closed her eyes tight, choking down the toxic mix of despair and rage. Word by word, she answered, "My grandma is being kicked out of her VIP room to make space for Yelena."

Without another second of hesitation, she marched into an empty hallway and dialed Clive's number.

It rang exactly once before he mercilessly rejected the call.

Whitley's heart sank into her stomach.

Him ignoring her calls had long become the standard.

Whitley took a sharp breath. "When he's done, tell him to call me back."

"Of course, I'll definitely let him know," Yelena replied with a smug smile in her voice.

The call disconnected. Whitley stared at her screen, waiting for it to light up again.

But even when the workday came to an end, Clive never returned the call.

Shortly before it was time to clock out, Chisholm walked over to her desk and gently placed a folder in front of her. "Your official contract. You can't keep working for free. Your salary is set at our absolute maximum rate, and you'll get dividend payouts once the project hits profitability."

Startled, Whitley quickly stood up. "I haven't achieved anything of value for the company yet. You don't need to give me dividends."

Chisholm looked at her with unwavering certainty. "Whitley, I know exactly what you're capable of. Your value is worth far more than what's on that paper."

"When you agreed to come back, we established that your expertise was your initial stake in the company. You can invest capital later when you have the means."

"Why? Are you not planning on staying with PurePath long-term?"
