Chapter 127
Rebel POV
Three days and apparently, I missed some big news. As Austin lowers me gently on the bed, I look up at him expectantly. “Do you want to start explaining, babe?”
He looks at me and smiles. “Goddess, I missed you, darling.”
I narrow my eyes at him. “Uh-huh? I know you have been worried, and I’ve been out cold laying in a hospital bed, but explain my father, babe. He’s going to be here?”
“Yes. After you went to take a nap before the battle, I went to call Elias. He filled me in on everything that he had gotten done. First, he couldn’t go directly after Kaden because, while we had our suspicions, we didn’t have any proof. The Central Council is investigating the Northwestern Council for blackmail and bribery. I don’t know where they are with their investigation. Your father though…”, he starts, and I see he is concerned with what he is about to tell me, “There’s a lot I need to tell you, but I need you to stay calm okay?”
When in the history, of ever flipping ever, has telling a woman to remain calm actually worked? I shake my head, “I’ll try, Austin. No promises though.”
He took a deep breath, “After you had your bones reset, you were resting, and I went to talk to Elias with your grandfather. He urged me to have a conversation with Dr. Hadley about additionally information that was found in your medical records.” He paused to see if I was good and then continued, “after meeting with Elias, I went to talk to Dr. Hadley. Honestly, I needed to talk to her anyway, I just hadn’t had the time. Anyway, she told me she ran your DNA twice. The second time she did it personally and confirmed you’re a pure alpha. She said there is no hint of beta blood in your DNA at all.”
“How? My father is a beta, Austin. That can’t be right.” I say.
“Well, your grandfather was with me. He said Harris was an Alpha, not a beta. He also said that Harris’ brother was the beta, darling.”
“What? So, my father is an alpha, according to my DNA? But if the Harris who I grew up with is a beta, then how is that possible?” I ask.
“When Harris is brought here, Reid is going to confirm whether or not the man you grew up with is the Harris he knew or if it’s his brother, darling. There is a strong possibility that the Harris you know, is actually your uncle.” He said slowly, to gauge my reaction.
What the hell? If he is my uncle, then where is my father? Why would the Harris I know plot something like this? I suddenly remember the words of Morgana, “Your father killed your mother. He accused her of cheating on him. I only know this because I was hired by the man who asked me to set up the illusion.”
“Austin, my mother was murdered. She didn’t die giving birth to me.” I yelled out as the memory came running back into my mind.
“What?” He asked with his eyes wide.
“When Morgana had me alone in that cave with her, she told me my father killed my mother. He was tricked into believing that she cheated on him. Morgana said a man hired her to set everything up. What if it was the ‘ Harris’ we know?” I asked.

Austin looked at me, and I could see the wheels turning in his head. “Also, there is another piece that Reid told us during the talk with Dr. Hadley. He said he had gotten word that the Alpha Harris he knew died from the heartbreak of losing her. Now I question that too. We need to talk to Reid and see who told him that Sydney died in childbirth along with you. We also need to know who told him that Alpha Harris died of heartbreak.”
“We need to talk to my grandpa.” I say, “I need to be there when Harris is brought here. How is he being brought here anyway?”
“Elias presented all the evidence of abuse, but then also brought up your blood type and how there is no way that ‘Harris’ could be your father and with the way you have been treated and hidden, everything points to kidnapping. I don’t think however, that murder is being implicated. I will need to call Elias and update him on this piece of the puzzle.” He says.
“There is something I don’t understand though, Austin,” I begin, “Why keep me alive? My mother was killed after giving birth to me. My father’s death is also a mystery. Why keep me alive? Wouldn’t it have made sense to kill me too?”
Austin’s eyes darken. “Don’t ever say that in front of me again, darling. I’m glad you are alive and well and mated to me.”
“That’s not what I mean. Of course, I’m happy to be alive, here with you, mated to you and carrying your pups, babe,” I say to ease his tension, “I simply mean, what did he stand to gain by keeping me? I wonder if Jules and Rachel know. Also, Rachel and I look similar. I think ‘Harris’ could be related to me, which makes this even more confusing.” I finish.
“How about we start with your grandfather first? After you eat, I will call him here and we can discuss this further. Then if you are well enough, we can find out if you are able to see ‘Harris’ when he arrives. I want the doctor to clear you to do so before making that a final answer though. Your health and the health of our pups come first, darling.”
“Okay. But, if I cannot go down to see him, then have the guards hold him in your office or something. I will see how Roxie is doing, and we can try to get the truth out of him. Plus, Elias can record everything too and present the evidence.” I say, trying to think ahead.
