Austin stayed with me the entire time I was getting treated. His eyes darkened with fury when the X-Rays showed my cheek bone and nose were broken. My body was dehydrated and I was covered in welts and bruises. My bloodwork was showing I was being depleted again but it was caught on time to reverse my issues.

The good news, besides my pups being healthy and strong, was the Wolfsbane in my system has been neutralized and after almost two days in the pack hospital I felt Roxie fluttering in my mind. I miss her not talking to me. I know she has been keeping the pups protected and I can’t be upset about that, I just want her back. She is still my best friend.

Even though I still look like a wreck, I do feel stronger today. I want to go home and sleep in my bed. In the time I’ve been at Blackstone, I feel like I keep making constant trips to the pack hospital for injuries. I’m sure that isn’t the case, but it feels that way.

Dr. Hadley walks in and starts looking at my vitals, “How are you feeling today Luna?”

“A lot stronger today. Roxie is also fluttering in my mind.”

“That’s great!”

“Yeah, so does that mean I can go home now?” I ask hopeful.

Just as I finish asking, Austin comes in with coffee and a bag of what I assume is breakfast. “Are you trying to bust out of the joint again?” He said smiling. But the smile doesn’t reach his eyes. I know he is still upset and blaming himself. If I could have healed before he got to me, I would have. I don’t like seeing my mate blaming himself.

“It’s about to be a prison break, if I have to spend another night in this hospital bed.” I say sarcastically.

Dr. Hadley starts laughing, “Good morning, Alpha.” Then she turns to me, “Luna, if your bloodwork looks good I will release you to bedrest at home. Bear with me for another hour while the tests get processed.”

“Fine.” I mumble like a petulant child, which only makes the doctor and Austin chuckle.

After Dr. Hadley leaves, I look at Austin. “Spill. Why are you still in a foul mood?”

“What?” He responds. Clearly, he is taken off guard by my address. I raise and eyebrow at him and continue to stare at him until he finally breaks the silence with a sigh.

“You know why, darling.” He said as he hands me a ham, egg and cheese on an everything bagel.

“I’m here. Back with you. This…” I wave at my face, “this will heal. Besides, I pissed him off on purpose.” I said as I took a bite out of my sandwich, Goddess it is delicious.

“On purpose!” He said, looking at me incredulously.

I put my sandwich down and looked at him seriously, “I know you don’t like seeing me like this, my love. But, I would do it all over again to protect you.”

“How was this protecting me, darling?” He is still looking at me like I’m crazy.

“It was strategy, love,” I began, “Cullen explained betrayal pains to me. I didn’t want him doing anything intimate to me. He wanted to weaken you, by using me. He knew you would come for me, but he was banking on you being too weak to actually put up a fight to rescue me. He was going to use that to kill you, take Blackstone and then reclaim me as his mate and Luna.”

“So you had him beat you instead. There had to be another way around that, darling.” He said.
