Chapter 174

Austin POV

We have been traveling non-stop for hours. We are still about an hour out. I call Renz for a report.

“Everything is quiet, Austin.” He tells me.

“I’m telling you, something is coming. Have the warriors ready. We are still an hour out. Make sure Rebel or the pups don’t leave the pack house. Keep eyes on them, Renz.”

“Okay. You want to tell me what’s going on and why you are suddenly acting like this, Austin?”

I remember that angelic voice said not to tell anyone, except Reid. I’m not going to go against her words. I won’t be saying anything. “Gut feeling, Renz. Keep watch. I’ll be there soon. Tell know one I’m coming. Not even Rebel.” I say, hanging up.

I keep my eyes focused and continue driving. All I think to myself is to get there before it’s too late. I say to myself over and over, ‘Just hold on. I’m coming.’

Rebel POV

For the last three hours I have been working with Dr. Higslee and Dr. Hadley, concocting the right formulation to use on Morgana. I don’t think it would have ever been this fast if not for Dr. Higslee’s assistance. His knowledge in herbs and potions are certainly vast and I’ll admit, I’m intimidated by his intelligence.

Dr. Hadley however, has been laughing and blushing around him, this entire time. Perhaps, they will reconnect with a deeper connection once we are done here. The thought makes me smile. Dr. Hadley is a kind woman and I know she has a heart of gold with a strong sense of justice to match. Watching their interactions, I think it would be a good match. I’ve heard of chosen mates. They are both older. Both look like they are in their forties. Hopefully, something will happen and maybe Dr. Higslee will join the pack hospital.

“Luna, this should work and give you the effect and ultimately the result you are looking for in subduing Morgana. She doesn’t need to ingest it, although, that would be much more effective long term. Just rubbing it, onto her skin topically should do the same thing, though. Once applied, it should kick in within minutes.”

“How long will the effects last?”

“If ingested, then a couple of days. Topically, no more than twenty-four hours depending on how much you can get on her. Of course, you could apply topically and then have her ingest the rest.” He says thoughtfully.

“Thank you Dr. Higslee, this means everything.”, I say and look out the window and see it’s getting dark,” Perhaps, you would like to stay for dinner and stay the night? I could have someone get a room ready for you.” I ask.

He looks over at Dr. Hadley and smiles, then looks back at me, “As much as I would like to stay, I must leave. I have just enough time to get to the train station and head back home, Luna. I have important meetings tomorrow and I need to prepare for them. I do thank you for the offer.”

“Very well. Thank you again for helping me. I hope your travels home are safe and quick.” I respond, shaking his hand.

Chapter 174

+25 Bonus

He says his goodbyes and smiles once again at Dr. Hadley, before exiting through the front entrance. I turn to Dr. Hadley and raise an eyebrow then smirk. “You both were very friendly.” I say teasing.

Dr. Hadley’s cheeks turn red, “Dr. Higslee and I have history and that is where it will stay. But we have a great affection for each other. That’s all I’ll say on the matter, Luna.”

I smile widely and hook my arm with hers and start walking towards the dining hall, “I hope one day you will tell me all about it. Let’s go get some dinner.”

After dinner, I check in on Mary and the boys. I want them everywhere I am, but this meeting was too important and I told Mary to stay in the nursery with the boys. However, now that the meeting is over, everyone has eaten, and I made sure a tray was sent to Mary, I went up to see her. As I enter, I see she is reading quietly and the boys are in their cribs sleeping like little angels.

“Any problems?” I ask, startling Mary from her focus.

“Oh, Luna! Yes. They are sweet boys, “She started before howling interrupted us.

“Shit! Rogues! Mary, get the boys. Get into the safe room. Do not come out until you are cleared. Remember the safe word!”

That was something else I thought to add as a security measure. In case anyone starts calling, Mary would not come out unless one of the six people who knew the safe word called it out. Those six are Austin, Renz, Jessup, Lacey, Jane and me.

As soon as she is secured, I rush to my bedroom and run into Renz on the way. “Renz, the boys are in the safe room with Mary. If something happens, you protect them with your life. You understand me?”

“Rebel, Austin told me to keep eyes on you. I’m not letting you out of my sight. You need to get into a safe room too.” He says adamantly.

I give him an incredulous look, “Have you lost your mind? I’m a fighter and today is no different. I will protect my family and if I can’t, you protect them with your life. Now, I’m going out there, try to stop me.”
