Rebel POV

Austin left and I still feel uneasy. I haven’t heard from him and I don’t know If Llora is going to help us or no

“Yes, please,” I said, opening the door to invite him in, “Let’s go to the study and discuss more there.”

We make our way to the study and after we take our seats, I mind link the kitchen to send in refreshments. Then after some pleasantries, Dr. Higslee asks, “Luna, I wanted to ask you why you needed phoenix blood and why you are so eager to learn about it so urgently.”

I pull out the old book from the library, “First, let me explain the situation Blackstone is facing and my research. Then I will explain why I need the phoenix blood and to learn how to use it.”

I go on to explain the cliff notes version of my past, and the threats I have faced since finding my mate. Then I explained Morgana and her history with my grandfather and where I play into the picture. He sits quietly, listening, and sipping his tea. Every now and then, he slightly raises an eyebrow as if he is assessing what I am telling him in his mind, in real time. You can practically see his brain computing outputs.

“After this episode that happened a couple of days ago, I took to the library to see what I could find about witches and how to defend my pups, mate and myself from another attack. During my findings, I came across this book and there is a section about potions and runes.” I said, opening the book and then pointing to the footnote, “This footnote suggests that phoenix blood will suppress a witch’s abilities, long enough to eliminate the threat. It doesn’t say how to use it or where to get it though. Which is why I reached out to Dr. Hadley, and from there, you know the rest.” I said.

Dr. Higslee puts down his tea and stares off into space, thinking. I nervously wait to hear if he can help me. After a minute, he looks up and smiles gently.

“Luna, phoenix blood when applied appropriately can diminish a witch’s power. While I think that would be a great start, there is no guarantee that it will work the way you are thinking it will. However, there is a better way.” He says, leaving me intrigued.

“Okay, I’m all ears.”

“First, I’m happy to give you the phoenix blood sample I have. I don’t think it’s enough to completely subdue a witch, which is why I don’t think it will work the way you are thinking it will. However, we could mix it with hemlock. In the right quantities, it would not only subdue a witch’s abilities temporarily, but it would make her hallucinate and it would give you the ability to ‘eliminate the threat’ as you say. Luckily, for you, I have both.” He says pulling out two vials.

“You are willing to help me?” I ask and I swear I could cry and jump for joy at the same time.

“It seems like you have been through enough already, Luna. While I don’t particularly like to engage in violence, I think this can be done without a significant amount of harm to anyones person. If you have iron chains and manacles, you can restrain her after you subdue her. Iron represses the supernatural power and you can send her to the council and let them deal with her.”

I look at my Luna Guard, “Do we have iron chains and manacles?”
