Blanca POV

Twenty-four years. I have been married to Diego for twenty-four years. Before we were married, we were happy. I had such illusions about love and a happily ever after. After we got married, he changed. In fact, he changed the moment I found out I was pregnant. To this day, he never told me why.

After Thalia was born, I thought things would get better, but it didn’t. He started staying out, later and later. He would always say he was working, but I knew he was out drinking and sleeping with other women.

One night he came home drunk and he forced himself on me in bed. It was the first time he had touched me since I found out I was pregnant with Thalia. When he woke up the next morning, he saw how badly he used me and bruised me. He was actually sorry for how he treated me the night before and for the first time in a long time, he was the gentle and loving man I remembered marrying.

A month after that night, I found out I was pregnant with Rodrigo. Diego was very happy and for a while, our marriage worked. Once again, I was happy. But he gave all of his love and attention to Rodrigo, while ignoring Thalia. So, I made up the difference by giving Thalia my attention.

After a while, our marriage started drifting again. Once again Diego started drinking and claimed it was for business. This time though, he would come home most nights. and make love to me. Then I became pregnant with Mia. Diego showed the same love and affection for Mia as he did for Rodrigo. At least when she was younger.

As my daughter’s got older, Diego became more distant from them. Thalia suffered more than anyone. Mia still had her father’s affection but not as often as Rodrigo did. When I confronted Diego about it, he simply said that he is getting an early start for Rodrigo to take over the family business. He was making Rodrigo the heir, even though Thalia was the eldest child.

We argued about it all the time and then one day Thalia was kidnapped. Diego was frantic about finding his daughter and for once, I saw that he loved her. After two days of searching, he found her, but she was mangled and bloodied. He said he couldn’t take her to the hospital because we are wolves and he was right. Our family doctor was keeping her as stable as he could until Raul arrived.

He was furious by what he saw. His niece battered, bruised and violated to such an extreme. He wanted to shift and kill the fuckers that did Thalia so much harm. Another year passed and my daughter was finally starting to come out of her shell again. Diego said he wanted to take her out for Christmas shopping. I thought it would be a good idea to get her out of the house, and who better to protect her than her own father?

By the time they got back, Diego was carrying her and saying she wasn’t feeling well. He took her to her room and locked her up. No one, including me, was allowed to see her. Diego took care of her and nursed her back to health. He kept insisting that he wanted to spend this time with his daughter to bond with her.

After that incident and until Thalia turned eighteen, she was closed off. She never wanted to hang out with friends. She never wanted to go out. She never wanted to do the things girls her age should do. The only person that could get her to laugh or smile was Mia. Thalia was so close to Mia. She was extremely protective of Mia, too. Rodrigo, influenced by Diego, treated his sisters like they were beneath him.
