I tried. Goddess knows, I tried to get Rodrigo to be kinder to his sisters, but all he would do is go to Diego to complain. Diego would reproach me for interfering with the way he trained Rodrigo. When I started pushing back on his ‘training’, that’s when Diego started hitting me. After that, I moved out of the bedroom we shared for almost two decades.

It was the only thing I could do to get away from him. He never let me work. Never let me be part of the family business. If I wanted to buy anything, he gave me his credit card, never cash. I literally had nothing in my name. I had no assets. No family to run to or call for help. Raul saw this and he gave me a burner phone, privately. He told me, if ever I needed anything, to call him and he would be there for me and the kids.

The only time I asked him for help was for Thalia and Mia. Diego trying to force a marriage on Thalia that she didn’t want was the last straw for me. All the time I thought he was starting to show affection for his first daughter was a lie. He was still indifferent to her and I never understood why. Nor would he tell me, when I asked. All he would say was, ‘Don’t act so coy. You know why.’

I helped them escape the terrible fate he had for my daughters and since then I have been very careful not to mention anything. I sure as hell don’t call Raul. However, Mia’s birthday is in a couple of days, and I just want to know they are okay and happy.

Diego is gone for another hour. I decided to grab the burner phone and dial his number. I just need two minutes. On the second ring, Raul picks up, “Blanca, is everything okay?”

“Yes. I just wanted to say hello. Mia turns eighteen in a couple of days. Is she with you?”

After another moment I heard the voice of my daughter. “Mama! How are you!?”

“Mia, mi vida. How are you and your sister?”

“Oh mama! We are good. Thalia is the Luna. Her mate is the Alpha of this pack. Remember the man we met? He’s our Alpha Thalia is mated and marked now. I am learning to be a doctor because of Tio. Everything is fine. We are fine.”

I’m crying. My daughters are happy. Thank the Goddess they are safe. “Good, mi vida. I just wanted to call you, while I have a moment to wish you a happy birthday. I hope you get your wolf and find your mate. I have to go now. Tell your sister I love her and I’m proud of her.” I added.

“I will mama. I love you. We love you.” She said, trying not to cry on the phone.

I said goodbye and I tied the phone to the rope and drop it in the air vent for safe keeping. It’s far enough down that no one will see it, unless they know it’s there. I went to the bathroom to freshen up and then I will start dinner. When I come out of the bathroom, Diego is standing in the middle of my room.

“Diego. What are you doing back so early?” I said, trying to stay calm.

“Blanca, all this time, you’ve known.” He said and he had anger rolling off his shoulders.

“Known what?” I said, feigning innocence.

“Still lying, I see.” He said as he walked towards me with a predatory stance. Fear is starting to rise in me.

I’m walking backwards until the back of my legs hit the dresser behind me. Diego grabs me by the neck, “You fucking traitor.” He growled.
