Thalia POV

I have been looking up anything and everything I can about the Shadow Maw Pack whi sun set nears. I’m nervous, but Nyx keeps saying that everything is going to be fine.

‘Do you think Aiden will find us ugly once we shift?’

‘I’m fucking gorgeous and exotic, Thalia. If he thinks we are ugly, then he doesn’t deserve us.’

‘I love your confidence.’ I said with a smirk.

‘I want to mark him. I can’t wait to mark him, actually. He is a strong and special alpha.’

‘I know he is strong and special.’ I said with a smile.

‘Girl, get your head out of the clouds. He and his entire family are special. Gifted. When we mark him, we are going to amplify it for him.’

‘Special how?’ I asked. Why hasn’t he told me? ‘We are going to amplify it?’

‘I don’t know. But Leon has been anxious to complete the bond and I already know that when we mark our mate, they will become even more gifted.’ Nyx said. ‘We are special too, Thalia, yes, we will amplify it.’ I’m still stuck on the fact that he never told me he was a gifted wolf.

It’s getting closer to sunset and Nyx urges me to change into a robe so I can take it off when I start feeling the shift. I hurry back to the room and then after I change, I ask Nyx, ‘Aside from being an ancient bloodline, which you haven’t denied today, are we also really gifted?’

‘More than you can imagine, girlie.’

‘Did my dad know?’

‘You bet your ass he did. He just doesn’t know how gifted. I heard him whisper to you in your sleep that he cannot have you being more powerful than him and that’s why he tried to kill you and by proxy, kill me. But I knew one day we would be free. So get your ass outside now!’ She said with a smirk.

So Nyx heard my dad say he wanted me dead so I couldn’t be more powerful than him. Why? You would think, being the first born and powerful, he would have wanted me to be his heir and right hand. What am I missing?

Aiden POV

The sun is setting, and Raul and I are waiting for Thalia. She is walking towards us in a silk robe. She looks gorgeous, but I have to push my thoughts aside for the moment.

“Hey mojito.” I said as I kissed her.

Chapter 319

+25 Bonus

She kisses me back and then looks at me seriously. “Nyx said you are gifted. Why didn’t you tell me?”

I’m taken back by the question. “We need to complete the mate bond first. You will understand why after that happens. I’m definitely hoping that happens tonight.”

Thalia’s eyes shifts down and when she looks back up, she says, “Okay.”

I think she might be upset I haven’t said anything. It’s the rules. I can’t break it no matter what. She will understand once I explain it.

“Baby, listen to me. First shifts suck the most. It hurts and there isn’t much you can do about it. The easiest way to get through it, is to not fight it. Let it happen. It shouldn’t take more than a couple of minutes. With Nyx’s warning earlier though, I don’t know what to expect.” I said to her.

Raul steps up, “I will be here, checking vitals if need be, sobrina. I also have a tranquilizer if we need it to help you finish your shift.”

“Nyx said that won’t help unless it’s strong enough to take out a herd of elephants.” She said nervously.

I rub her back and we watch the sun finish setting when we hear the first bone snap. “Argh!”

Thalia cries out.

“Kneel on the ground, baby.” I said.

Thalia kneels and removes the robe as she stays hunched over. More bones crack and she is in tears from the pain. It’s gutting me to see her in so much agony.

I start seeing her fingernails extend and turn black. Followed by her eyes going full black. I won’t lie, it looks really scary and intimidating not seeing the whites in her eyes now. She is gritting her teeth and they are also turning black as more bones crack and start reshaping.

Raul is stand close behind Thalia with a stethoscope on her back to hear her heart. “Vitals are still good.” He said standing back again.

“Baby, I’m here. Try to relax and let it happen.” I said. I’m not sure that will help at this point but I’m trying to encourage her. “You got this Thalia. You are brave and fierce.”

She is screaming in pain and I want it to end. It’s already been ten minutes. A normal shift for the first time is usually three minutes at most. I see fur starting to come through. It’s black. Very black. The kind of black that you would think you would see in a dark void.

Suddenly, Thalia starts moving on her hands and knees and I hear snarling coming from her. It almost sounds like her wolf is fighting to get out.

I look at Raul, “It sounds like she is fighting to get through. Could this be because of the henbane pills?” I asked.

“Possibly. Her vitals are strong though.”

Finally, the rest of the bones crack quickly and reshape. Fifteen minutes later, I’m looking the most gorgeous, massive, black wolf, I have ever seen. There is a huge scar on the underbelly that matches Thalia’s. Otherwise, she s glorious.

“Nyx, you are gorgeous, sweetheart.” I said, holding my hand out to her.

Then in a shocking turn of events, she speaks, “MATE!” She said, acknowledging the mate bond, “Thank you, mate. You’re not so bad yourself.”

“You talk?”

“Better than growling all the time.” She said.

“Is Thalia okay?”

“Yeah, she is resting. The shift took it out of her. I was held back for too long. Now, am I going to meet my mate? I’m dying to see Leon!” She said excitedly.

I chuckle, “Yeah, let me undress and I will shift.”

As I’m undressing, Raul is standing there, shocked by Nyx. “I’m your Tio, Nyx. You know that, right?”

“Of course, Tio. We will have plenty of chances to talk.”

I’m listening to this exchange and I can’t believe that my mate’s wolf talks like a human outside of the mind as well. I pull the shift and walk up to my mate.

‘Nyx, I can’t talk like you can. But let’s run. I’m pretty sure Leon wants to hunt you.’
