Sinclair POV
I meant to go back to Blackstone this weekend, but I’m being delayed a week. Kaia called me and said she needed my help with setting up some kind of surveillance.
“Why haven’t you called me sooner?” I asked her.
“I was trying to get it mapped out, but I was having a hard time figure out a relay that I wanted to set up. I give up though and decided to call you.” She said.
She goes on to tell me about her idea and as she is speaking, her elaborate plan unfolds. “…so, you see, I need to make sure I figure out the whole relay thing. Then I will set everything in motion.”
“Are you sure you want to do this? I mean he is your husband.” I asked. I mean, it would be nice if Isaiah were my mate. I would hope the bond would be there and he would want me. Then I maybe wouldn’t wander to the world alone anymore.
“Yes, I’m sure. That boat sank a long time ago.” She said and her tone sounds wistful. Clearly, my friend isn’t happy with her marriage.
“Fine. I will be there in an hour.” I said.
I hung up with her and then called Thalia to let her know. When she answers, I find out that she has given birth to her pups. Saying pups instead of babies is still weird for me, but I will have to get used to it.
“Thalia that is so great! You better send me pictures! I know Kaia will want to see them too.” I said, happy for her.
“I will. Are you still coming back this weekend?”
“That’s what I was calling to talk to you about. I was planning on it, but then Kaia called me and said she needed my help. I am going to be delayed for a few more days. I hope I will be back by next weekend. I definitely want to see your pups!” I said excitedly. “What are their names?”
“Rosario and Teagan.” She said. “They are extremely special, but I’d rather talk about that in person. I have to tell you, next weekend, Aiden and I are going to Obscure Shaw with the girls. We are going to begin training and document everything about our pups. If there is any way you can get here before next weekend, I would really appreciate it.” She finished.
“You just gave birth and you are leaving?” I asked incredulously.
“Wolf pregnancies are different from human ones, Sinclair.” Thalia said with a chuckle. “Women heal faster because of our wolves. Our bodies still need to adjust, but we are healed completely after about a week.” She said.
“Really? No wonder there are so many pups running around! All the women heal up, and the men are quick to knock them up again.” I said laughing.
“If I am not back before you have to leave, give him my number and Kaia’s. Then we can call with updates if needed.” I said.
“Okay. Call me Friday for an update.” She said.
“Will do.”
We hung up and I grabbed my keys and left my studio apartment. As I walk outside, and go to my car, I get the feeling someone is watching over me. I stopped and looked around. I don’t see anything, but I can’t shake that feeling.
Regardless of what I’m feeling, Kaia needs my help. I get in my car and when I do, I can smell a different scent. Someone has been in my car. I look around the seat, under the steering wheel, the back seat and glove box. Finally, I see a blinking light under the center console, between the seats. It was very faint and if I hadn’t smelled someone in the car, I wouldn’t have known to start looking.
I pull on the wire, and a device slides out from under the console. It’s a tracking device. Someone put a tracking device in my car. Who the fuck would do that? I got out of the car and checked under the hood. I found two more trackers. I carefully removed them. I go to my trunk and act like I am getting tools and find one more tracker. I’m a mix of scared and pissed. Someone is following me, clearly. I slide under the car, acting like I need to reach something and there are two trackers under the car as well. That’s a total of five trackers. What the hell?
I’m not driving this car now. Instead, I grabbed my phone and booked a car through a car ride app and waited. When it arrived ten minutes later, I got out of my car and into the car ride that I booked. I took off and I decided to talk to Kaia when I get to her place. I turned off the trackers as soon as I got into the car ride and as we were driving, I asked the driver to stop on the side of the road for a moment so I could dispose of the tracker. I will check Kaia’s car too. If she doesn’t have any trackers, then that means someone is targeting me. But who?
