Chapter 481
Adrian POV
Amber said she wanted to get away from Blue Moon for a little while. I decided to let Reid know that I am taking a week off and going to Blackstone with Amber. Maybe being with Thalia, Rory, and their two friends would be good for her.
Plus, we would have time for us to try to reconnect. I’m not sure why, but I feel like she is slipping away from me. I’m not sure why, though. I’ve done everything I can to make her happy.
None of my brothers has this issue with their mates. At least not after both people have accepted the bond. Amber accepted it, but I think she regrets it. This is my attempt to reverse her thoughts about our relationship.
When I got there, I ran into Isaiah packing up and found out that he is now the Alpha of Ironclaw.
“How did you become the new Alpha?”
“So, when I turned Kaia, she went back home to tie her loose ends. Her loose end was her divorce from her husband. The guy cheated on her and beat her. She ended up in the hospital. But it was set up that way on purpose by Kaia. It worked, and she got divorced. She also got all her ex-husband’s assets,” he said.
“Okay, but what does that have to do with Ironclaw?”
“I’m getting to that…,” Isaiah continued, “Fast forward, we go to Ironclaw to discuss the merger with Alpha Paul. Councilman Edgar is also there. We went after Kaia completed the blood pact ceremony. When we got there, it turned out that Alpha Paul is Kaia’s ex-husband.”
My eyebrows shoot up. “So the pack belonged to Kaia?”
“No. Paul put the property into a trust in case of a divorce. He was having dinner with the councilman to get it back now that the divorce is finalized. However, Kaia showed the paperwork to Councilman Edgar, and then Aiden stepped in to discuss how he could acquire Ironclaw. It turns out that Paul lied on his applications for the trust, and Edgar didn’t take kindly to the deception. He told Alpha Max to represent Ironclaw.”
“Shit. So then Paul didn’t own Ironclaw either.”
“Nope. Edgar said Paul committed fraud, and then Aiden explained the war that was coming and how he originally wanted a temporary merger. Edgar was going to discuss it with the other council members, but Paul kept losing his temper. In the end, Paul went feral and was eyeing Kaia. I stepped in and beat his ass. Because I defeated Paul, he lost the ability to retain the pack. Edgar recorded it and then said I was the new alpha,” Isaiah finished with a shrug.
“Holy Moon Goddess! That’s awesome. Are you excited then?”
“Well, nervous. There is a suspicion of a mole there. I need to flush that person out. It’s a tangled web that involves Kaia’s father. I need to sort the truths from the lies. It’s going to take work.”
“If you need help, I’m here for you,” I said.
“Honestly, Aiden needs a beta. If you have any recommendations from Blue Moon, let him know and let him talk to Reid.”
“I will talk to Reid. Perhaps I can fill in until Aiden finds someone. Blue Moon is a well-oiled machine. It
can function without me for a little while,” I said.
“How are things with you and Amber?”
