Kaia POV
There has been so much going on since Sinclair left. I am still searching for additional links to Julian. Still trying to figure out what is going on with Amber. Thalia told me what she saw, but pinpointing something this old and with very little information is taxing.
Then there is the exhaustion. Isaiah and I went to the doctor, and we figured out that my iron was low. So Isaiah has been religiously getting foods high in iron on the menu for me. It has gotten better, but the doctor said that Titan is draining me as quickly as I am getting it in. So now I’m on supplements, and I swear this pup is making me think there are hidden pups in my belly. I look huge, and I feel uncomfortable.
I only heard from Sinclair that she is on her way back. She will be here by late this afternoon. She said she would explain everything to me when she got back because she is still processing the information.
I am currently on the couch in our room, and my legs are elevated. I really don’t like that I can’t see my feet otherwise. I’m clicking away at the laptop, and Isaiah walks in with a spinach salad and smoked salmon. My mouth starts watering immediately.
“Hungry?” Isaiah smirked.
“Yes. Feed me. Please and thanks,” I grinned.
Isaiah laughed and handed me the plate. “So I got a call from Aiden. A lot happened over the last couple of days over in Blackstone, and they are going to need our help. Specifically, your help and Sinclair’s help.”
I tilted my head, “What happened?”
“Heath sent rogues to Crossfang. The kidnapped Mia,” he started, but I growled immediately. “Trouble, let me finish.”
I huffed. “Fine,” I mumbled, willing to calm myself down. Damn pregnancy hormones.
He smirked, “Thalia and Aiden were able to rescue her. They found out from one of the rogues that was going to help Mia escape that Heath sent them there to snag her research on the gemstone properties she’s been working on. Then Thalia’s grandfather and uncle went to Golden Frost and found out that Julian ordered Heath to have the rogues bring Mia to him.”
“What?! So Heath and Julian are working together? What about Mia? Is she okay?”
“Yeah, she’s fine. Back with Luca. There’s more though,” Isaiah replied.
“More?”
“Yeah. Turns out the rogues that Aiden saved before and the rogue that was involved with kidnapping Mia may come from the same pack. The pack was called Brownstone. It got wiped off the registry as if it never existed. We suspect it is because of Heath.”
“Why Heath?”
“He steals other packs’ inventions. Then patents it under Golden Frost. Whoever remains alive becomes rogues, and the packs are wiped off. That’s the theory based on what we see from Brownstone.”
“No. She said that she would tell me when she gets here. That tells me she is either not happy or upset. I’m not sure which one. Either way, she is going to need a moment.”
Isaiah thoughtfully said, “Then I will call Aiden and let him know that Sinclair is coming back today but needs a couple of days before she can get started.”
“I still need to get to Black Enterprises, Isaiah. I need to clean house and get things sold. We need the pack finances to get straightened out. I think it would be good to ask Aiden to help us restructure the company so we can both run it. I don’t know how to make that work with a board, though. Aiden would, right?”
“Yes, but so do I, Kaia,” Isaiah said, and he looked wounded that I didn’t ask him.
“Really? I just thought since you barely left the pack that you weren’t involved with the business side like that, Isaiah.”
“Aiden trained me to take over the pack if he didn’t have an heir, Kaia. So yeah, I know about it,” Isaiah said.
Then I put my plate aside and wrapped my arms around him. “So does that mean we get to play boss and secretary in my office later?” I playfully asked.
“Are you making me a secretary, trouble?” He smirked.
“Only in my office, stickler,” I laughed and winked.
