Aric POV
Adrian took me by surprise when he became serious and asked about a blood pact. I have no idea what he is talking about, but Isaiah clearly understood where he was going. They both looked at me, and I have to admit, I’m a little nervous.
“Don’t look at me like I’m a sacrifice, guys. It’s kind of creeping me out.”
They both started laughing. Then Isaiah spoke, “Nothing like that, Aric. You are a ranked member, and until I could evaluate everyone, I didn’t want to talk about it. We are at a place where it is now time to explain.”
“Okay?”
Adrian began. “The Willis Bloodline is favored by the Moon Goddess, Aric.”
I raised an eyebrow. “Aren’t we all favored by the Moon Goddess? I mean, we are her creation.”
“Yes and no,” Isaiah said. “My mother’s bloodline comes from a very private pack called Rising Moon. Centuries ago, the Moon Goddess made a blood pact with them. Only the warriors and ranked members could participate in the blood pact, and no one outside of the warriors and ranked members could know about it. Otherwise, the Moon Goddess’s favor would be taken away.”
“If it’s with Rising Moon, then how do we get it?” I asked.
“My mother grew up in Ironclaw. She didn’t know her mother’s side of the family until after she met my father. Then she found out about the blood pact. Once the pack is completed, then warriors and ranked members get blessed with special gifts, given by the Moon Goddess at a designated time. Sometimes it’s immediate,” Isaiah answered, and then he continued. “Anyway, because she was already mated to my father, the blood pact was extended to Blackstone. My mother inherited her mother and father’s pack, Blue Moon, and my brother Reid is the Alpha, and Adrian here is the Beta. I was the beta at Blackstone. We are all part of the blood pact.”
“And by proxy, Ironclaw can become part of the blood pact,” I said, understanding where this is going.
“Exactly. But it is a very private ceremony. One, where I will need warriors from Blackstone and Blue Moon to be here to patrol, while all the warriors are told about the bloodline history, and I will need to alpha command everyone to keep everything a secret to ensure we don’t lose the Moon Goddess’s favor or blessings. There is a war coming, and we are going to need our gifts if we stand a chance of winning.”
“A war?”
“Yes. We will talk about that more another day, though. I think we have touched on this topic a couple of times, but you really need to understand. So, we need to get a blood pact completed once the ranked team is complete. I want the ceremonies done before I leave with Kaia, and we will do the blood pact when we get back.”
“So you and Adrian are gifted?” I asked.
“Yes. We absorb impacts. Like the energy from explosives, for example. Then it strengthens us,” Isaiah said.
Adrian smirked, “Pretty fucking cool, right?”
My head is reeling. “I guess. All the warriors and ranked members are going to get gifts?”
“Yes. At the right time. Of everyone, Thalia is the most impressive. She is the chosen one, though, so I guess it’s fitting.”
“Chosen one?” I asked.
“Yeah,” Isaiah said. “Goes back to the war discussion we will have later.”
“Why not now?” I asked.
“Because right now, I need to talk to Alpha Max. I need to know where he wants to transfer to and when he plans to leave with Paul. I can’t have Paul here. I definitely cannot have those locked up in the dungeons here either. Discretion about the blood pact is not a suggestion, Aric. If you want me to alpha command you not to say anything, I will. I want to leave that choice with you, though.”
