Kaia POV
When I came out of the safe room and made my way outside, I saw nothing but carnage. This was a full-out war. I had missed it. For the first time since finding out I was pregnant, I feel ready to have Titan and get back in the fight.
I looked around and saw Aiden, Thalia, Austin and Rebel. Several of the Blackstone warriors were here. I see dead rogues, and I see dead Ironclaw warriors. I even see John, the former alpha, gutted and dead on the ground.
Isaiah walks towards me, “Trouble, you don’t have to see this. We will clean up everything.”
I don’t care about the mess. “What happened?”
“It’s a very long story, Kaia. This was Ronan’s doing, though.”
“Ronan. Why do I remember that name?” I asked.
Sinclair walked up. She is bruised and battered. “Cherise and Ronan Clay, from the adoption records.”
My eyes widened. “Your father did this?”
“He is Aric’s, Dad, not mine.”
“WHAT?!”
Isaiah then added, “He was also behind Amber’s curse.”
“I’m not missing the next fight. I will hide in a bedroom to hear everything if I have to, but someone is going to explain all this to me. And how did John end up here?”
“I suspect that he and his cronies were let out by Ronan. He got away after twisting a knife in Amber’s chest. Adrian rushed her to the pack hospital,” Isaiah said.
My mate looks utterly exhausted. I put my hands on his cheeks and kissed him gently on the lips. “Go be alpha. I will wait for you to fill me in. I will see if the omegas are okay and have them start preparing food. You all will be exhausted by the time this is cleaned up.”
He wrapped his arms around me and buried his head in my neck. “We are not ready for a war,” he whispered.
I hugged him back and whispered, “We will be. Don’t worry about that now.”
He kissed me again and then walked off to continue stacking bodies together. I looked at Sinclair. She looks like she is about to break down. I grabbed her and pulled her in for a hug.
“Are you okay?”
“I don’t know,” she said. “I feel like I’m losing control of everything I thought I understood.”
I straightened her up and looked her in the eyes. “Sinclair, remember the client we worked on back in the human world? The one with the automotive empire?”
She nodded.
“Well, we were thrown off the right scent more times than we cared to remember, but in the end, we got our guy, didn’t we?”
“Let’s discuss everything after we are all calm.”
She nodded and then went back to help with the cleanup. Three huge piles. It’s going to look like some kind of ritual when they light everything up.
I walked back inside and made my way to the kitchen. I see the omegas looking very serious, but pulling ingredients together. They are clearly bothered.
I saw Sheri and walked up to her. “How is everyone doing?”
“Is it true that Beta Aric is half hunter, Luna?” she asked, and all the omegas stopped and looked at me.
I sighed. “That is what I was told. The man behind today’s attack was Ronan Clay. He is a hunter. Sinclair thought she was his daughter, but Beta Aric is his son, and Sinclair has no relation to Ronan.”
All the women in the kitchen looked visibly worried. Do they think he is going to turn on them?
“What is wrong?”
“If he is half hunter, is he holding back his urges to hurt us?” Mack asked.
I smiled at these women. They have been living in fear for far too long. I grabbed Mack’s hand and began to speak to all of the omegas, “He didn’t know he was half hunter. He has a wolf himself. Do you think that if he had the urges you are thinking about, he would have been able to defend this pack just now? He has protected you, ladies, as best he could amid the terrible leadership here before. Do you think that is someone who has urges to hurt you?”
They all looked at each other and blushed with embarrassment. Clearly, they are in shock but couldn’t see past the word ‘hunter’. I will need to discuss this with Isaiah. Aric is one of us.
