Kaia POV
My head was spinning with everything my father said in that recording. I was only an object used to make money. He never looked at me like a daughter. Just an asset.
Don’t get me wrong, as a hitman, I’m used to being an asset, but at least I would get paid. It’s a different kind of asset. But for my dad, I looked like an asset he owned, like a real estate deal.
Isaiah held me last night as I cried. He has been wonderful through all of this, even though I know he is furious. I decided not to accept any more calls from my father. Let him rot in prison. Mr. Fellman breathed a sigh of relief hearing that, but he said I would need to move carefully while I’m in town, because he was supposed to get me to drop the charges.
Mr. Fellman was solid, though. He said, " Don’t drop the charges. He said to keep him in prison for the rest of his life. Isaiah and Sinclair both agreed. It wasn’t like I was opposed to the idea, but I feel a lot better knowing everyone is on the same wavelength.
Now, it’s day two of this visit. I am going to Black Enterprises. I called a board meeting, and I am planning on dismantling a whole lot today. Starting with Harvey Birch. He has tentacles in the company, and it’s time they get severed.
Prepared with my laptop and Isaiah by my side, because he refused to let me go alone, we climbed into the rental we ended up getting this morning. Sinclair is staying behind to work on narrowing down Ronan’s location. She thinks she has a lead, but she isn’t sure yet.
“Are you sure you want to open this door right now, trouble?” Isaiah asked.
I looked at my loving mate. Constant worrywart. “Yes. I need to remove the largest problem from that company. Birch has to go. I have people in place waiting for my signal, stickler. I’m not going in blind. You know that.”
We reach the office. The building is made of black glass and is at least twenty stories tall. Above the main glass entrance, in a big, bold, silver, masculine font, it says ‘BLACK ENTERPRISES’. I take a deep breath and smile at Isaiah.
“Project: Hostile Takeover – is about to begin,” I said with a smile.
“Don’t do anything that will give me a heart attack, trouble.”
I laughed. “I can’t help it if you get scared easily, stickler.”
He scowled, making me laugh again. I walked inside, and there was a receptionist in the lobby. “Welcome to Black Enterprises. How can I help you?”
I smiled. “My name is Kaia Willis. Formerly Kaia Black. I’m your new CEO. Please call Harvey Birch to escort me up.”
The receptionist’s eyes grew large. “Yes, Mrs. Willis.”
She made the call, and when she hung up, she looked at me with disapproval. “Mr. Birch said you are not the CEO. I’m afraid I’ll have to ask you to leave.”
I smirked. I knew this was how it was going to go down. He wants to vote me out. Too bad for him, I came prepared. I opened my leather bag and pulled out all of the certified transfer documents.
“Call him down here. Let him know I have the means to have him physically removed from this building for insubordination.”
She looked at the documents and immediately made the call. When she hung up, she looked at me with apologetic eyes. “My apologies, Mrs. Willis. Mr. Birch said he will be right down.”
“He has five minutes, or you are taking me up.”
She nodded nervously. When five minutes had passed, I looked at her. “Take me to the conference room having the board meeting, NOW.’
Isaiah is looking at me and smiling. ‘I think I might want to play CEO and assistant later, trouble. You are hot when you act like a boss.’
