HIS REGRET (Ex-Husband wants Me Back) novel Chapter 355

**Shadows of the Past – By Emma Clarke**
**Chapter 355**

“He only mentioned that Dad… passed away quite some time ago,” Eli said softly, her voice barely above a whisper, tinged with a deep sense of longing. “I yearned so much to meet him. I thought… perhaps moving to SunCity would finally give me that chance.”

Selena looked at her daughter, her heart aching for the girl’s unfulfilled dreams. “Do you regret coming here?” she asked gently, hoping to gauge Eli’s feelings.

“No. What could I possibly do now if… he’s already gone forever?” Eli exhaled, her breath trembling as she fought back tears. “But like you said, Mom—there’s still my father’s family. I have to believe they’ll accept me.”

Selena’s gaze sharpened as she studied Eli’s expression, searching for the right words. “I understand,” she said slowly. “Then let me tell you about your father. You know his name, don’t you?”

“Yes. Chase Miller.”

Selena nodded, pride and sorrow mingling in her chest. “Your father, Chase Miller—the eldest son of the illustrious Miller family. He is one of the owners of a significant company in this city, sweetheart. And all of this…” She gestured broadly at the opulence surrounding them, the luxurious apartment that sparkled with wealth. “Should have been yours long ago.”

“For me?” Eli blinked, her mind racing to absorb the weight of those words. Selena softened her tone, as if she were attempting to ease the blow of reality.

“I’m sorry, Eli. I can only explain everything now. I didn’t want to overwhelm you too soon.” She reached out, tucking a loose strand of hair behind Eli’s ear with a gentle, deliberate touch. “So please, don’t feel guilty about any of this. You deserve it—all of it.”

Eli nodded slowly, her innocence absorbing her mother’s words like a sponge, unwavering and unquestioning.

It made sense, didn’t it? If this was indeed her father’s property, then she had every right to claim it as her own. Not just for a fleeting moment—she was a Miller too.

Her life had been turned completely upside down the instant she had agreed to follow her mother’s decision to come here.

If only they had taken this step sooner, perhaps she wouldn’t have faced the dismissive glances and scornful comments from others so easily.

As the night deepened, Eli finally succumbed to sleep in her new bedroom, the weight of her thoughts drifting away. Selena tucked the blanket around her small frame with a tenderness that belied the turmoil within her heart before slipping out and gently closing the door behind her.

Stepping onto the balcony, Selena picked up a glass of deep red wine from the side table and savored a slow sip, letting the rich flavor wash over her as she gazed out at the city lights twinkling like stars scattered across a velvet sky.

“Eli’s right. This place is stunning,” she murmured to herself, a thin, satisfied smile gracing her lips. “The Millers truly inhabit a world that makes me never want to return to the past.”

The chill of the night air caressed her skin, yet her expression remained stoic, unyielding.

Raising her phone, she dialed a number with a practiced ease.

“Yes, I’ve just arrived,” she said, her voice laced with a haughty confidence that slipped back into place effortlessly. “Everything unfolded far more smoothly than I anticipated. They welcomed us with open arms—almost too readily, if I’m honest.”

A chuckle echoed from the other end, rich and knowing. “Of course they did. That family has always been like that. If you present something that seems convincing, they’ll throw their doors wide open. But tread carefully with Cale Miller—he’s not easily deceived.”

“Relax. I’ve already prepared a few strategies to silence him,” Selena replied, taking another sip of her wine, the liquid warming her from within.

“So? What have you achieved so far?”

Selena’s voice took on a pleased tone as she spoke. “Nathan immediately offered one of the family properties to Eli and me. It’s almost as if he’s already recognized her as his grandchild.” She swirled the wine in her glass, her eyes gleaming with ambition. “The view would have been even more breathtaking if you were here.”

“Enjoy it. But remember, I don’t want any of that. Don’t let these small victories blind you—you know what your true objective is, don’t you?”
